Another Thursday, another day for Algren to work his shift at the Wellspring.

It was going to be spent mentally steeling himself for the oncoming onslaught of parents and guardians, yes. He had no idea how he was going to explain the subject matter of "Sex Thru The Ages" to any possible concerned parties.

While he wiped down the counters, he found himself silently wondering if he could blame the whole thing on Kirk...

"Morning," Algren replied, nodding slightly as he tried to shake his nefarious Jim-Blaming Schemes out of his head. "I trust it's going well?"

"All hour of it I've managed to sit through," Cable agreed, wryly, and as a few more steps took him into the store proper, the dog followed. "And yours?"

Algren offered a sideways sort of grin as he gave his knee a pat, looking toward Tether.

"Somewhat distracted, I suppose." There were topics for him to mull on that weren't directly related to how he was supposed to explain things like 'preserving your jing' to concerned parents. "Actually, I was hoping I could get your opinion on something."

"I have plenty of opinions," Cable volunteered, easily, watching Algren's face, and not the predictable sprint the dog made for Algren's knees. "Shoot."

"Well," Algren replied, bending over stiffly to give Tether a pat, "I suppose you're already aware that I'm the faculty supervisor for the Girls With Guns club, run through the school?"

Cable just seemed the sort to know things like this. Call him crazy.

Cable knew exactly how many. He just wasn't going to volunteer even more information Algren already had.

It was His Club Dammit, and Algren was going to keep on for as long as there were students willing to participate.

"This semester, the student who organizes the club seems to have taken to approaching me with... unreasonable requests." Well, he certainly figured that they were unreasonable. Or perhaps 'irresponsible and insane' were a better fit. "She seems to be functioning under the impression that it would be a good idea to supply the members with guns of their own, which I refused. This week, it was a request to take the lot of them out to the mainland to fire semi-automatic sniper rifles into some empty field."

"While in wartime any kind of firearms training is going to be a good idea..." started the man who had at one point turned a whole squad of teenagers into a military force. But with mutant powers. That, like, changed things. He shook his head. "Sniper rifles take a little more training than that, generally." Because that was the big issue at hand. "Triela has a history along these lines."

"I'm aware of her history," Algren agreed, nodding. Frowning. Halfheartedly wrestling with the dog. "I think I might worry too much, in that respect. I just find myself wondering where I should continue saying 'no.' She certainly has the experience needed to use such weapons responsibly, and all power to her when there actually is a need for them to be used. Handing them to a group comprised mostly of cheerleaders seems... irresponsible."

"There's no harm in a trained populace in case of actual danger," Cable replied, "That doesn't mean we need to encourage the students to become soldiers if they aren't in a position to need those skills. It's an old question, though... how to balance peace and protection."

Mina dropped into Wellspring today, without any pretense other than 'wanting to see Mr. Algren'.

"I hope the day finds you well, sir?" she greeted, a pleasant expression on her face.

"As well as to be expected," Nathan agreed, setting down the rag that he was wiping the counter with and smiling over at her. "Yourself?"

"Reasonably well," Mina said. "Are their certain expectations on you that I am unaware of?"

"It's that time of the semester that every teacher dreads," Algren replied, shaking his head, a light smile toying at his lips. "The time when we're expected to explain what in the world was going through our heads when we decided to teach our subject matter of choice to the beloved sons and daughters of entirely too many curious, possibly distraught parents."

... Look at the course he was teaching. He had little doubt that at least a few teachers were bound to be somewhat distraught.

"I hope not," Nathan said, frowning. "I suppose if anybody takes too great an issue with the course, I can just point them at Jim..."

Operation: Blame Kirk might just save his ass, this weekend, yes.

Mina chuckled. "A fine choice of action, I believe," she said. "Blame passing is only acceptable when it is true."

"Oh, I'm fairly good at taking the blame when blame is due," Nathan noted lightly, crossing his arms over his chest. "I would like to think that, in this particular case, blame isn't due. I'd tell you of the movie that he had us show the class this week, but it's really entirely too painful."
