So the weekend hadn't been a disaster--his dad had beat up his grandfather, and only in the Skywalker family would that be kind of awesome--but the rest of it, yeah, he could have skipped.

He'd promised Tahiri ice cream to celebrate surviving the experience, and ice cream they would have.

Lots of ice cream, if Ben had his way.

Tahiri had gotten her day's training session in already, in anticipation of -- yeah, lots of ice cream. Talking to Jacen had been uneasy, and Face . . . had been Face, but she thought Ben probably needed it more than she did to deal with the family-related trauma of the weekend.

"So I was here yesterday too," she admitted as she walked up to him.

"Really?"" Ben replied, reaching out to hug her. "That bad a day?"

She'd promised him she'd make up for the hugs she wasn't about to give him in front of his father and grandfather, so Tahiri hugged him back hard. "It wasn't that bad, for the most part," she said, then sent, Not even the part that I don't remember. "I came down with Tara last night, after her family left."

Riina came out? Even mentally, Ben sounded a little shaken. Did she hurt anyone this time?

No, and that's the weird part. Tahiri didn't sound shaken so much as just confused. I think she helped. The first thing I remember is her -- Tara, I mean -- thanking me for whatever it was I just did.

Ben blinked at her. "Seriously?"

"Yeah." Tahiri's face was a study in WTF, for lack of a better description. "I didn't ask for more details yet, but I guess I should. I never expected that."

"That's a good sign, maybe?" Ben said, still looking a little confused.

[weetuskenraider]

"I think it is. I'm not sure." Tahiri shook her head. "I think I need ice cream to process it. Anyway, you had a weirder weekend than I did."

"Think they have beebleberry today shut up, Nick is playing on Wookiee?" Ben asked, taking her by the hand and pulling her inside the shop.

And avoiding her comment. He had skills.

"Only one way to find out," Tahiri replied. "And I'm taking your lack of comment as agreement, so I'm buying you an ice cream cake."

He had skills, but she was persistent.

"A small one," Ben decided, "and you should help eat it."

"What, you thought I'd leave you to tackle that without help?" she scoffed, teasing. "Dream on, Skywalker."

He squeezed her fingers. "Maybe it was just that bad a weekend," he said, only half teasing.

Not like she'd believe him if he said it wasn't a bad weekend. Not with the insane mess that was all the different versions of their galaxy, and the people in it. Tahiri gave him a slight grin and started leading the way to the counter. "I was going to get you your very own cake if you wanted it, remember?"

"But then I might have to roll back to the dorms and Ender would give me that look that says he's totally laughing at me later," Ben complained.

[weetuskenraider]

"Not as obsessively as you work out," Tahiri countered. "Although if you did have to roll back to the dorms I'd be laughing too."

"Even if I turned into a wheel?" Ben asked.

Especially then, probably.

[weetuskenraider]

"I might laugh a little less then," Tahiri informed him seriously. "Otherwise I'd never be able to take good holos."

To laugh at more later, of course. She was very nice that way.

"How considerate of you," Ben said, sticking his tongue out. "Maybe I'll write to Face and tell him you want to be a member of his fan club."

Tahiri mock-glowered at him. "Ben Skywalker, don't even think about it, or I'll . . . I'll . . . well, I'll come up with something!" Like possibly trying to tackle-hug him. In the middle of Chilly Boulder. What? She'd missed doing that over the weekend.

"A charter member," Ben said, laughing. "I'm not afraid of you and your 'something'."

[weetuskenraider]

"Maybe you should be," Tahiri retorted in a completely unconvincing way. "You should also be glad I kept him from teasing you about me."

Ben's eyes went wide. "He knows about us?"

[weetuskenraider]

"No," Tahiri said quickly. "I mean, he figured out I'm dating somebody but he doesn't know it's you. That sounds bad, doesn't it?"
