MCA Lobby, [10/22]

Mina Murray sat behind the lobby counter, reading a copy of... Cosmo.

She looked as if she was attempting to stare at an article until it burst into fire. Mina did not approve of such content in her magazines. At least, the ones she read in public.

Over the quiet week, she had moved her belongings down from apartment seven and into the much more spacious manager's suite in number zero. She'd even brought in some lab equipment so she could run some minor chemical experiments in her spare time.

This did, however, leave a vacancy in the building. So she left a sign on the door reading:

One vacant apartment.
Serious inquiries only.

She'd be glad to help any potential tenants, as well as any current ones or any friends who may stop by the lobby.

Tim was tired as he returned from classes that day. Somehow even the portalocity commute had seemed trying. It had just been that kind of day.

At least it was almost over.

"Oh, hi. New landlord right?"

"Yes," Minda said, looking up. "Though long time tenant. Mina Murray, at your service."

"Pleased to meet you Ms. Murray." Tim smiled. She seemed polite enough already to be an improvement over the previous landlord. "I'm Tim Desmond, I live in number 8."

"My former neighbor, then," Mina said. "It is good to make your acquaintance, Mr. Desmond. May I be of any assistance?"

"Not at the moment I don't think. Everything's going well. Oh, but did you know about the holo...thing?" He didn't know the name for it, he'd found it kind of by accident. He pointed towards the holosuite.

"There's a manual," Mina said. "Unfortunately, it seems like I will need to find a translator for it."

"I didn't even know there was a manual. Do you know what language it's in?"

"Not a clue," Mina said. "It does not seem to be of... Earthly origin."

"I guess that makes sense. I thought it was from the future, but it could be from another planet. Have you asked up at the school?"

"I have been busy with other duties," Mina said. "I admit, it is not a priority for me."

Really, Mina was tempting fate with that sign.

Yakko rushed into the lobby and asked, "Why do hot dogs come in packs of ten when hot dog buns come in packs of eight?"

Mina was a little suprised, but thought on her feet. "To force you to buy more buns, it would seem. A cheap marketing ploy, perhaps?"

"Hmm. Makes sense. Thanks a lot!" Yakko said before rushing out the door.

It showed how serious the question was. Or something.

It also showed how much Mina was getting used to this island that she was amused and not annoyed at that interlude. She went back to her magazine, a pleased smile on her face.
