Homecoming Weekend Brunch, Sunday Morning in the Park

There hadn't been too much trouble arranging the brunch in the park. Jennifer had enlisted the help of various people, and even got people like that scary teacher Mr. Dukes to help pitch in.

There was a harvest theme in the tent, with the tablecloths and napkins all in reds, yellows and oranges. There were centerpieces on the tables of cornucopias with edible fruits! There was also, of course, every kind of brunch food imaginable set up at the buffet table. There were even some food items there that didn't even qualify as brunch. And for some reason, there were biscuits baked in the shape of fish.

Jennifer found them oddly tasty.

Jon ducked his head and rubbed the back of his neck. "Most people would say yes. I mean, there's Claire, Dinah, Karla, Leda..."

"For me it was redheads." Kawalsky looked around. "There. Short, red hair, looks ready to draw a sword on anyone. Sir Alanna of Olau. She's a knight." He even managed to make that sound like it was normal.

Jon whistled when he got a look at Alanna. "Go Kawalsky. And for the record, I'm dating Claire, just friends with the others. Even though they could probably all kick my ass. Does being a knight mean Sir Alanna over there can kick yours?"

"Yes. Yes she can. Probably without breaking a sweat." He sounded a little proud of her right then. "We dated in school, but she had to go do the hero thing after we graduated. There wasn't much left at home for me with being dead and all, so I travelled a while and then ended up staying in her world. Hell of a culture shock. Still not entirely convinced this isn't a really weird afterlife."

Jon was a bit relieved that he didn't have to skirt around that particular issue. "Culture shock, how? I mean, you went to Abydos, didn't you?"

"I wasn't planning on living in Abydos for the rest of my life," he pointed out. "It's a little different when you're there for the long haul and actually want the King to like you."

Jon smirked at him then, because that had to suck "So, you have to suck it up and deal with lack of plumbing and cable television?"

"You feel my pain," Charlie deadpanned. "No watches, no guns, no hockey."

"Oh, I do," Jon said, trying not to laugh. "It sucks. Majorly." He remembered that lovely vacation on Edora. "The redhead helps though, right?"

"She makes it all worth it. And with some timeline weirdness I got an idea of part of my future. That? Definitely makes every time I fell off a damned horse worth it."

Jon figured Kawalsky deserved that kind of good future. "Like, those future kids I was told about?"

"Something like that, only not random ones from another universe. She's all grown up, definitely mine and here somewhere. And yes, blonde. I'd warn you off her, but you seem like you've got your hands full."

"Oh really?" Jon just grinned. "The girls have adopted me or something. The first day I met her, Karla had some bruises on her face and she called me a Warrior Prince because I wanted to go bust some heads for her."

"They raise 'em tough around here. Good people to have watching your back. Just don't let them think it's okay to put glitter in your stuff or you'll spend the next few years trying to get rid of it all."

"Too late." Because it was. So much. "Along with the turning into a girl, having the girlfriend turn into a boy, turning into a dog..."

"You're getting the whole run, huh? Seems crazy at the time, but you'll miss it. I forgot how serious things got after you graduate."

"Considering the plan so far is to head back to the SGC, I doubt I'll miss the crazy." Because, you know, trust rituals and being chased by angry natives was so normal.

[*facepalms* I'm off my game tonight.]

"You still hear about what's happening back there?"

"What I can. Teal'c has discovered email, and who knew the guy was the gossip king of the SGC?"

"That Teal'c, always a big talker. My universe's version liked to come for Parents Weekend too."

"I made sure to send back some blackmail photos of the old man with him."

"You're really into self-punishment, aren't you?"

Jon smirked and shook his head. "It's not self-punishment at all. He was the one wandering around in short cutoffs when he got girlified."

"There's a mental image of you...him...that I never needed. What's he doing here anyway? Don't tell me he actually went back into retirement."

"He's on vacation," Jon said with a roll of his eyes. "Apparently, he could be here for months and only a few days will pass in his universe."
