Homecoming Weekend Brunch, Sunday Morning in the Park

There hadn't been too much trouble arranging the brunch in the park. Jennifer had enlisted the help of various people, and even got people like that scary teacher Mr. Dukes to help pitch in.

There was a harvest theme in the tent, with the tablecloths and napkins all in reds, yellows and oranges. There were centerpieces on the tables of cornucopias with edible fruits! There was also, of course, every kind of brunch food imaginable set up at the buffet table. There were even some food items there that didn't even qualify as brunch. And for some reason, there were biscuits baked in the shape of fish.

Jennifer found them oddly tasty.

"So I heard," Emma teased, grabbing a grape off Karla's plate and trying to bop her on the nose with it. "Jack Priest says you're a surprisingly good kisser, by the way."

Emma Frost, ladies and gents. School gossip.

"Jack, Leto, Triela, Mat Cauthon...George Cooper," she added, playing it totally cool.

Totally.

"Well now, someone was popular," Emma laughed. "Did you have a good time? Any prospects for future, non-paid kissing?"

"A few others, too," Karla added. "But...yeah. Maybe." She dropped her eyes to fiddle with her hair and now there was definite flushing. "Possibly."

"Kaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarla." Emma's eyes lit up with glee, and she grabbed at the other girl's arm. "You do not get to leave it at that. It's unfair."

Karla raised her eyes up to Emma and dimpled. "I might have given a kiss away for free," she admitted. "Well, in exchange for lunch."

*Can you gueeeeeeeeeess?* she sent on an Emma-only psychic thread.

< Your friend Mat? > Emma guessed, since she knew they had had a horseback riding date lined up. < I still need to meet this boy. >

*No......* Karla teased. *Mat's fun and handsome and a very good kisser, but--* She shook her head. *He reminds me of Jack Priest in a way. Handsome, flirtatious, but ultimately not for me. I don't think I'd share well.*

Emma wasn't going to comment on the sharing. Not in public, even if no one could eavesdrop on them like this.

< If it's not Mat, or Jack, > she mused, tapping one finger against her lips. < George? Seriously? > Triela didn't seem Karla's type in that way -- too literal -- and Karla wouldn't make a big deal if it wasn't someone Emma didn't know pretty well.

*Kinda?* Karla said, a bit unsure. *I mean, we just flirted a bit. It was nice. So was the kissing. But there's no guarantees on anything further...* She have Emma a hesitant glance, waiting to see her reaction.

Luckily for Karla, Emma hadn't talked to Beka yet, so she just giggled. "You must remember this," she sang, mildly off-key as she grinned at her friend. "A kiss is just a kiss..."

Also luckily for Karla, she was still under the impression that Beka didn't know her relation to George and was in no big hurry to bring that subject up.

She just laughed, even though she didn't know the song. "I'm not getting all swoony or anything," she assured her friend. "Just saying it was nice. Very, very nice. A nice I wouldn't mind getting to know a bit better. But I'm not about to go get a diary so I can start writing our names in it or anything."

*Even if we do have a sorta, almost, kinda agreement to get ice cream at some unspecified time. Maybe.*

*Is not!* Karla protested. ...At least, I don't think it is. We didn't agree on anything other than maybe we should, sometime. Lots of people get ice cream.

"George and Karla sitting in a tree, k-i-s-s-i-n-g...." Why yes, Emma was feeling incredibly bratty today. Sometimes she was very much five-years-old. "I expect to get most of the details later, darling."

"Em-ma!" Karla squealed, tossing another handful of grapes at her. "What is your damage?!" She cracked up, laughing so hard that she had to rest her head on the table. "Emma, you have lost your everloving mind!"
