Support Services Meeting: The Perk, Yes That's An E, Friday After Classes

Francine had sent out an e-mail of handwavey to the members after Ethics yesterday, and called ahead to the Perk to make sure there was room to accommodate the group.

Now she could be found at the table nearest the door, a bottle in one hand and a cup of hot chocolate in the other, droid-baby hanging out in the sling around her shoulders. "Hey, guys. Since it's getting a little cold out there for a baby, even a fake robot one, we figured we should move this someplace warmer. Since some of us were up at four o'clock in the morning, someplace warmer has coffee."

Coffee, indeed. There were even serve-yourself meeting containers of the regular stuff, for those who didn't want to go up and order something with whipped cream and syrup, and an array of muffins, scones, and cookies on one table. Not courtesy Francine this time, since the Perk staff weren't too keen on people bringing baked goods in.

Karla ducked inside, flashing Francine a smile and waggling her fingers towards Wee Baby Merlin. "How's he been?" she asked. "Was he good for you last night? And did you want to go shopping tomorrow?"

Merlin who was not wee or a baby except when it came to cleaning things waved over at Karla cheerfully. "Hello!"

Karla grinned at him. "Has Francine introduced you to your namesake yet?" she asked.

"Your namesake!" Karla said gleefully, pointing to the hideous bundle of still hideous joy on Francine's lap. "We named him for you!"

"Yes and yes!" Francine's definition of 'good' might be a little lenient here, granted. Wait until the fourth night in a row of waking up at 3 a.m.

Merlin had been good? Karla was relieved--she assumed it meant that he hadn't stayed up crying last night like some of the other babies.

Of course, Karla was still underestimating how happy Francine was at having a baby, even a creepy-looking, vocal one.

"Pixie Dust tomorrow afternoon at handwavy? I can take him with me tonight, if you like. Or do you want an extra night and I can take him tomorrow?"

"You can take him tonight if you want," Francine said, if a little reluctantly. "I think Katchoo has her baby tonight, and they seem to set each other off." Of course they did. They had sensors. "Is Pixie Dust open on Saturdays?" No, no, it's not.

Arthur had been there all along really found that he had some trouble lurking in the space of a cafe environment, so instead he was managing his usual brand of I-own-this-place-but-pay-no-attention-to-me at one of the table near the window.

Still no food, though.

He more or less managed the I own this place but judging by the fact that there was a Francine, a robot baby, two cups of hot chocolate and a plate of banana bread being deposited at his table, the second and third bits weren't being managed so well.

"Karla wanted to name him after you," she said without much in the way of ceremony, while shoving the food toward him. "But I convinced her to go with Merlin instead."

Arthur did the princely thing and tuned Karla out as he took a slice of banana bread. "Well, with a name like that, that child is doomed," he judged, glancing up at Francine.

Francine shifted the droid baby to her shoulder and grinned. "We might not have to worry about taking care of these babies for very long, but there's some real ones on the island too. I think one of the things we ought to do is make a list of who's available to look out for the kids on the island when their parents are helping drive off the latest invasion. Or, you know, half the school wakes up wearing Power Princess underoos. Who's good at taking care of kids, or has a lot of patience--"

Wee Merlin Peters-di Glacia chose that moment to express his displeasure with ....something. Loudly. Then brraaaaallllllaaaaaap all over her shoulder. ...Yay for realistic simulations. Francine sighed and reached for a handful of napkins.

"--And wants to learn? Any other ideas for dealing with the kids during dangerous times, or even fun stuff for when it's not dangerous?"

When they ping in. Preferably when they're not trying to convince a droid-baby that their lovely breasts are currently only for decoration, thank you, here is a bottle.

Morgana had her baby with her, and was murmuring to it that it had better not get sick on her like Francine's baby. Surely, that would keep her clothing safe?
