Luke's Diner, December 7 (Monday)

It took Lacey fifteen minutes to get in the doorway this morning, which was really only continuing the pattern from where it had taken her ten and a half to get out of her apartment doorway. Given that she had two giant candy canes under each arm and was dragging a Radio Flyer wagon full of oversized ornaments behind her, the collective 25.5 minutes' worth of doorway struggle wasn't bad, actually.

The first project as soon as she got to the diner and through the doorway: start baking up a ton of gingerbread. Yes, she was going to build a gingerbread house. Yes, from fresh gingerbread. Yes, she was ambitious enough to consider an entire gingerbread village maybe, and no, she didn't think this might be a little insane.

. . . and yes, she'd spent the entire weekend redecorating her FarmVille farm for the holidays, oblivious to the rest of the world.

Today's Special
Pumpkin Spice Loaf
Butternut Squash Soup
Chicken Pot Pie

Luke's is open and gingerbready-smelling and RUN. RUN FROM THE CRAZY DECORATING LADY. OH GOD SHE HAS A GIANT TUBE OF ICING RUUUUUUUUN.

So Bobby had finally bought a clue and brought himself out of his self-imposed exile of sorts. Which meant, of course, that since it was also Monday, he and Kyle and George headed for their usual booth at Lacey's.

It was a little chilly in Bobby's immediate vicinity, but at least he hadn't accidentally frozen the island over or anything.

Kyle was wearing layers, but he hadn't got himself a decent coat yet. After spending a little time with Bobby outside of the safe room, he made himself a mental note to go and buy one.

"I want something that isn't a sandwich."

"I want some mashed potatoes," George decided.

He still wasn't really looking anyone in the eyes, no.

"I need soup, I think." Something warm. That was the problem when you made the cold: layering didn't help much (though it hadn't stopped him from doing so).

"So, um. Anyone else have a really weird weekend?" Bobby finally ventured.

Kyle looked up from his menu, which he could now read to some degree. "I got chased by a polar bear," he said eventually. "All weekend."

"A polar bear?" George asked, staring. "What kinda bear is that? I didn' know there were bears on th' island."
longislandiceme: (confused)

"There shouldn't be," Bobby frowned. "Polar bears live at, um. The North Pole." Because George would know where that is. "Where it's pretty much cold like it was at Loki's castle all the time."

"It was white and big and smelled like fish," Kyle shrugged. "It didn't catch me. What about you guys?"

"...I did canoodle wit' Beka a lot," George admitted, his head in his hands. "Beka."

And Jean.

...Yeah, don't mention the Jean part to Bobby, George.

"I thought I was in a cave. Dying of the flu." Bobby rolled his eyes. "It was weird. Weirder than being a girl. Or a penguin."

"Wait," Kyle said, going back to George. "Isn't she like your grandma or something? You made out with your grandma?" Then he looked at Bobby. "I'm glad you didn't die."

"She's me great-great-great-great-great-great grandmother!" George protested. "An' I didn' know that then!" Also she was pretty. And good at kissing, And Gods, he'd made out wit' his grandma.

He buried his head in his hands again. "Wish I could've traded places wit' Bobby."

"How do you forget something like that?" Bobby said, making a face at George.

Kyle looked expectantly at George.

"I jus' knew -" George made a face back. "I dunno! I know now, aye, but I didn' know this weekend, and - and - Jean said she was havin' a baby!"
longislandiceme: (holy crap!)

"What?" Bobby... yeah, he shrieked. And there might have been a tiny patch of ice spreading out from where his hand rested on the table before he managed to get that under control. "Tell me it's not yours, please?"

Re: Mod Your Service

[identity profile] weetinyreese.livejournal.com 2009-12-08 05:23 am (UTC)(link)
"I don't think it was real," Kyle pointed out. "For all we know it could have been mine." He paused. "It wasn't."

"I dun think she's actually pregnant!" George protested. "Mayhap tis like when we were lasses but we weren't really!"

"Okay," Bobby said, dropping his forehead to the table and just... letting it rest there for a second. "I hope so. I know I didn't have the flu. And you normally know your great-great-whatever-grandma is your great-great-whatever-grandma. And there's not normally polar bears. This place," he groaned, "is so weird."

"A little," Kyle agreed. But then Kyle thought that Fandom having laundry facilities made it weird. "At least it seems to end after the weekend, or at least after a few days."

"Aye," George agreed wholeheartedly. "I dun ever want that one t'happen again. Rather be a girl."

Well, okay, the kissing and other stuff was nice. And the being in charge of stuff, but on the whole? Waaay too embarrassing.

"Definitely," Bobby nodded. "I mean, really, all things considered I'd really just rather be me, but apparently we don't get much of a say in that. But we do at least get a say in what we're ordering," he commented, as the NPC server came over to take their order. "Unless Lacey's changed her policy lately."
