Magic Box, Tuesday

First shipment of the new year had arrived and John was carefully going through it. Most of it was stuff for sale, but there were also some books he'd been after for his own research into the Yellow Eyed Demon Problem, as well as some hunting supplies -- enough for his own occasional hunt as well as to restock Dean and Alec the next time they came to visit. It made him feel better if he could make sure his boy had everything he needed while he was out there hunting without him.

It was a new term as well and so John had put the HELP WANTED sign back in the window.

The Magic Box was open.

After the Reserves meeting Dru had taken a walk into town to get a better sense of the area. She was surprised to find what looked like an occult shop on one of the streets. Back home shops like this were one of the best places to get information on the Real World.

Her dad would kick her butt for going in alone, but curiosity won out.

Dru cautiously walked through the door.

"I"m new in town," Dru replied, looking around and taking stock. "I'm just getting the lay of the land. The shop looked interesting."

"The island? No. But a place like this? You'd be surprised," she shrugged, picking up a crystal and turning it over in her hand. "It depends on where you look."

Dru nodded. "I've been in and out of them for the last four years, helping my dad take care of things that go bump in the night."

"Dad takes care of the physical stuff, I help with the hex breaking and gun loading," she told him. "Zombies, chupacabras, cranky poltergeists, all the fun stuff."

"And most people don't have a clue." Sometimes Dru was amazed at that sort of blindness. "Dad's been doing it for over ten years now. I've been helping the last four since my gram died. I'm Dru Anderson. And I'm going to take a chance and guess that you're related to Sam and Dean."

"Everyone keeps telling me I need to meet them," Dru grinned. "I'll have to track them down." She was pretty sure they'd have some good stories to compare.

"Can I ask a professional question?"

"What the hell is this place?" she asked, letting some of the frustration and confusion she'd felt since arriving show itself. "I mean there are people from other planets here. From other worlds! It's like being trapped in some weird science fiction movie. How is it possible?"

It still didn't make sense, but Dru figured that was the best answer she was going to get. She was just going to have to get used to the weirdness. "Well I'm here till the semester ends. I guess I might as well make the best of it."

Dru considered the offer for all of five seconds. "I'd love it. It'll be a lot more interesting then waiting tables somewhere. And educational too." Just from what she could see, the collection of books was more extensive then anything she'd seen before.
