Tyler seemed cheerful as Fight Club gathered tonight, which might have been enough to make people worry if it hadn't been for the fact he was always happy when they got together after a few weeks off.

"Welcome back," he said. "No snow, no gremlins, just punching. Ghanima, got anything to say before we start picking matches?"

"You remember the rules," she said simply. "You with her. You two, and you with him."

"And him with her, him with her, and her with her," Tyler finished. "Questions? We'll be around."

Harper wasn't quite as subtle. "Ooh, I'm so excited! It's been a little while I've had a match," she said, grinning.

Tahiri stifled a tiny groan. No, be a good Jedi, Tahiri, don't let it show.

"Same here," she answered, rolling her shoulders a bit. "And I've never sparred you before. Is there anything we should know, or should we just get to it?"

"Just that I'm pretty much a beginner? I've been working out, but normally I run away from a fight rather than joining one," said Harper. "Though I actually took out a gremlin last week, so I'm getting better."

"I'll try and go easy on you, then," Tahiri replied, a slight smile quirking her lips. "Running away's pretty smart most of the time, though."

Opting for the more fair choice of taking a defensive stance so Harper could make the first move, she brought her hands up, still open. "Though I don't think that's an option here."

"And you can't run away from all your problems, like my dad said. He told me that in the letter he left when he was hiding from my mom," said Harper, dropping into her fighting stance.

She'd been practicing her punching, so she decided to open with a left hook.

"Yeah, that's --" Maybe it was better not to address that statement. Lack of tact and all.

Tahiri realized, belatedly, that she'd forgotten to warn Harper about Jedi reflexes, and the look on her face was apologetic as she canted her head to one side to dodge the blow and counter with an uppercut.

Yeah, Harper's logic packed more of a punch than, well, any of her punches.

"Ooof!" She hadn't seen that uppercut coming and didn't managed to duck. She managed to take the hit and come back with a right cross.

"I can't help it, sorry," Tahiri apologized, ducking under that punch with a speed that to her wasn't what it could be, but was still kind of ridiculously fast by most standards. Luckily, those reflexes kept her from hitting too hard, too -- she could pull her blows before they did any real damage, which is what she did when she drove an elbow in toward Harper's chin.

"No worries," said Harper, who did just barely managed to duck Tahiri's elbow. "You're really good at this! Guess you get a lot of practice in?" she asked, throwing a rather weak jab.

Tahiri laughed and brought a hand up to swat the punch away, dancing back a couple of steps to throw a side kick that might have clocked Harper in the side of the head if she'd ever intended for it to connect.

"It's what I do, I guess you could say, yeah."

"Guess I'm probably better off sticking to what I do best: fashion," said Harper, feeling very grateful to duck that kick.

She had one last possible move left up her sleeve. With one last-ditch effort, Harper tried to stop on Tahiri's toes.

"Doesn't ever hurt to know how to defend yourself." Tahiri, it had to be admitted, had not expected the toe-stomping, which you'd think she ought to given her longstanding hatred of shoes. But then, she was used to fighting beings who preferred to go for the decapitation or evisceration instead. The Yuuzhan Vong didn't really go in for toe-stomping. Stomping around to look intimidating, yes, but that was different.

She yelped and hopped backwards, grinning ruefully. "Good one."

"I did it? Yay me!" said Harper, clapping her hands and grinning.

It didn't occur to her that she was probably leaving herself open to attack.

Yes, she was, and Tahiri's fist whistled in to within millimeters of Harper's solar plexus just to demonstrate that. "Run now," she offered as gently as she could. "Celebrate after you're far away."

Harper's eyes widened as she listened to Tahiri's words. Then she turned around and raced out of the gym, yelling, "I'll see you in P.E!"

Tahiri kind of just stared for a little while.

"Wow. That was kind of special."

But funny. She had to admit that.
