Between last week's general freakout over vampires and the attack by the werewolf on Saturday, Adrian still had company in the form of a 6'7 dhampir today, which was enough to make Tino not immediately start glaring at him upon arrival. He even started setting up without a word and let Adrian take his place behind the bar to get a drink. There seemed to be benefits to this arrangement.

Even if he was again on duty protecting Adrian, Dimitri was in a good mood. Sleep, good food, and good company had been just what he needed.

Now he would lean against the bar and see about that blending in thing.

"I think Tino likes you," Adrian said, lighting up a cigarette.

Tino was more not trying to get in the way of someone who could crush him.

Dimitri eyed Tino and decided that was not like on Tino's face. "Did you tell him why I'm here?"

"I mentioned it," he said with a shrug. "Especially since he was here Saturday. It's all right, I used small words."

Funny, that was how Dimitri would describe talking to Adrian. "Amazing how he still looks concerned."

"I think it's because you loom," Adrian said, not sounding bothered by this himself. It was easy when you knew no matter how much you frustrated a guardian, they weren't supposed to punch you.

"I loom?" Even at functions, standing against the wall in his guardian black, Dimitri had never been accused of looming.

"I'd call that looming. Unless you have another word for it." Which Adrian probably wouldn't use.

Dimitri used his immense restraint and didn't smile as he replied, "Being taller than you?"

"Hmm. That would be several words," he said, squinting like he was counting them off in his head.

"Four," Dimitri said, helping because thinking looked like it hurt the Moroi.

"He beats up werewolves and he can count. How did I get so lucky?" Adrian smirked.

"You moved to the right town," Dimitri shared, ignoring the obvious rhetorical aspect of Adrian's question. "You're sure you don't want to contact the Court to be assigned a Guardian?"

"Do you want to have the talk that would most certainly be had when that Guardian gives any sort of report back to Court?" Adrian pointed out. "I'm not that worried."

He had been on Saturday, but that was days ago.

"There is a reason my reports home a brief," Dimitri agreed. The insanity of Fandom had no place in reports.

"I would have figured you would be sending off essays about everything that went on," Adrian admitted. Well, besides Rose. "Here you are, demolishing my opinion of you."

He wasn't really.

"They won't allow Rose at the academy, so I see no reason for them to decide Fandom is anything less than an upstanding location for her training," Dimitri explained candidly.

"They won't allow her? What, for the runaway stunt? They came back." Which in Adrian's world was what it boiled down to.

"We brought them back," he shared. There was a difference between choosing to return and getting taken down with one hand in the middle of the street. "The headmistress was less than interested in training Rose to be a Guardian. I had to put up a fight to get her placed anywhere."

"And yet she seems pretty good at it to me." Not that he'd been watching her or anything, or that he was biased. Perish the thought.

He wasn't the only one biased or watching Rose closely. "You've probably had enough Guardians around to know the good from the bad." Just knowing who Adrian's family was made Dimitri fairly certain about this, even if Guardians didn't exactly mesh with his playboy persona.

"For the most part they tend to blend into the woodwork," he admitted, stubbing out the last of his cigarette and debating another. "I do know I'm not dead, which is a point in a lot of people's favor."

"That is the sign of a good Guardian." If not a terribly inefficient Strigoi.
