MCA Lobby, [2/9]

Mina was relieved that talk of vampires and general hysteria had died down. And also that none who knew her (increasingly poorly kept) secret had come to accuse her of anything.

The recent hub-bub made her simple filing and monotonous paperwork tasks seem a little pleasant. But she longed for something greater. A mission, perhaps. Travel somewhere exotic. Anything with a bit of true excitement.

It would help get her mind off the niggling feeling that had been back in her mind ever since she'd heard of the attack on radio. That one, demonic little thought, of just how good it tasted to feed off a living human being.

Mina busied herself with her work, behind the desk of the MCA lobby. Perhaps that would keep her in check, she hoped.

Angua realized that she really couldn't spend all of her time that wasn't at the station finding places to stick her nose that weren't her apartment, so she actually did return after work, intending to try to get through as much as she could before the vampire smell drove her mad and she needed to go out for walksies again.

And, look, she was even going to bite the silver bullet and give the landlady a smile on her way in, too. She just hoped it wasn't as toothy as it felt like it was.

"Afternoon."

Angua shrugged slightly. "Not exactly what I'm used to," she said. "You were right about it being fairly nice."

Now if only the place didn't reek of bloodsucker.

"I've gotten to see a lot of the town lately, as well."

"...Small," said Angua, honestly enough, after taking a careful moment to find a good, appropriate word. Nearly everything that came to mind as an elaboration, however, didn't seem to work, so her brain sniffed around the corners of her mind a little more, just add something else.

"...Very good coffee, actually."

But whatever did they do for potholes?

"Smells better than Ankh-Morpork, too," Angua offered in what she was figuring was a very good job at just conversation, even if it wasn't exactly attempting to be particularly pleasant. But she wasn't a vampire; she didn't exactly worry about charm.

"When it doesn't reek of vanilla, anyway."

Or vampires.

She might get over it one day, but it was unlikely. For now, just shooting the breeze. With a vampire. Like you do. Hoping things didn't turn out the way they did the last time she tried that whole civil to a bloodsucker thing...

"I have a sensitive nose to begin with," said Angua, easily enough. It seemed general enough to be an unremarkable trait. "But a place like Ankh-Morpork has a scent to it that anyone would carry with them."

Now that was a hell of a question. Angua quirked a brow.

"You mean, besides the smell?"

"...the dirt, then?" Angua supposed and she shrugged. "I suppose one could say the Unseen University, too. Although not as a cause of the smell, but something it's known for. It's also the largest city-state on the Disc."

Angua smiled, tight and toothy, and heard the words coming out from it before she could really stop them, marching on with their facades of politeness, "Tea, sometime, perhaps?"

[identity profile] colourfulscents.livejournal.com 2010-02-12 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Wednesday?" Angua offered, though, admittedly, it was sort of a random, arbitrary choice.

Angua thought of taking tea in a vampire's room and vertiably choked just thinking about it.

"Oh, I'd be happy to host," she said.
