Adrian was surprised to walk into Caritas tonight and see Tino holding a tiny kitten behind the bar. Before Adrian could even shoot off a smartass remark (dammit), Tino explained that it seemed to be a stray that had wandered in from the back. So, for now, they had a kitten.

Maybe Dimitri'd play with it.

Back to the world of duty and responsibility after a single day off, Dimitri was at the bar as usual on Monday night, ensuring no fools (or kittens) decided Adrian would be a good target of violence. His job was awesome.

Too bad animals hated dhampirs.

(Un)Fortunately for Adrian, animals had no problem with Moroi, so once Tino had put the tiny little thing down on the bar, it kept wandering towards him.

"I think he's trying to get away from the big bad dhampir," Adrian noted.

There was no denying Dimitri was big and possibly bad, given his life and marks, but Adrian's note was still borderline annoying.

"It's not uncommon," he replied evenly. Animals tended to fear the alpha, after all.

"Why am I the one he's coming to?" Adrian wondered, as the kitten turned its tiny kitten self just to brush up against his arm while he leaned on the bar.

"You're non-threatening," Dimitri answered honestly. "I'm sure it's a compliment." Of some kind.

"Tino's not threatening," he pointed out. Considering he'd been messing with him for months now and had yet to get punched.

The kitten arched its back and bounced sideways toward Dimitri with a hiss.

Dimitri raised his eyebrow and flicked a peanut from a bowl toward the kitten, causing it to falter and scurry after the nut. "Tino is trying to date Jessi. I believe that's a sign of something completely other."

After the travesty that was last night's loss to the US and a day spent baking because there wasn't any other way to drown her sorrow, Alysha was ready for a lack of thinking of another sort.

"Is that a student left behind or were you too lonely?" Alysha asked, leaning against the bar.

Naturally, Dimitri had seen Alysha walk in and recalled her being one of Adrian's dates at that strange three-minute extravaganza. Not that he'd been watching too closely or anything.

He left Adrian to answer her question and focused on making a visual assessment of her as a threat. Normal guardian stuff.

If Alysha had known Dimitri was doing 'standard guardian stuff,' she probably wouldn't've reacted to the assessment.

Instead she turned to him, raising an eyebrow. "It's kinda too small a crowd to do the lurking and checking out thing without just seeming creepy."

So far, few had actually reacted to Dimitri lurking in the bar with Adrian every week. "I'm sorry you feel that way," he replied easily enough. "Unfortunately it's my job to stand here and watch people."

"What, you're the bouncer?" Alysha asked. "You'd think the non-violence charm on this place would take care of that for you..."

"No, I'm the guardian," he answered. And clearly he didn't think the magic was enough to keep his charge safe at all times.

"Alysha," Adrian greeted her with a smile, and looked down at the kitten. "Tino found him, I don't suppose you want a pet?" Not dirty, actually.
