Imperial Junke Yard, Saturday

Marcus was in the shed (which really deserved a better name, what with the improvements) working on the TV. He had a beer, the parts he needed, and quite an impressive array of tools the origins of which it was best not to inquire about.

The junkyard gates were wide open and the junkyard itself full of all manner of interesting things.

[There is OCD today. If you want Marcus for something, like torturing him with small children, he's in the shed. If you're looking for a place to hide from small children, he might be willing to offer sanctuary, and possibly a beer. If you want to use the junkyard for anything, like family bonding, or, say, you need parts to build a cage for holding wee visitors or recalcitrant parents, please do so!]

And there was a small boy, probably about 8, in the doorway looking around. "Who are you?"

"Me, as I'm asking, but maybe someone else. I can't speak for them though, only for me."

"Because you're here and it would be rude not to call you by your name since I'm on your doorstep nosing about."

"It's hard to balance manners with being told not to talk to strangers," he pointed out. "But I never listen to that part anyway. I'm Alan Pevensie." The Prince of Narnia bit was never really necessary for introductions when he was visiting Earth. His grandmother said it drew too much unwanted attention. Alan looked expectantly at Marcus, waiting for a name in response.

"Probably not always good things," Alan admitted. "But since we know each other now, we're not strangers."

"Nothing," Alan admitted. "Why do you think I want something?"

"That's true," Alan admitted. "But they don't always want something from you."

"They don't I'm here yet. I'll find them later. Am I bothering you?"

Yeah, Alan didn't care either. "Well, my parents at home don't know that I came through the portal. I'll probably get into trouble for that later, if my sister doesn't keep up her end of our deal. But my parents here, though they're not my parents yet but they will be, don't know I've come to visit them. They probably don't even know I exist yet!"

"My aunt says it's a time travel thing. Either way, I'm going to get told off for it." He sounded far too pleased about that.

"All the time, but usually about fun things, so it's worth it."

Alan didn't need to be invited twice. He ran over and flopped onto the couch. "Do you live in here?"

"I have a place like that too. I thought about showing it to my sister and cousins, but I don't really want anyone else to know about it. If yours is a secret too, you're not doing a very good job of hiding it."

"That's what I was thinking. It's important for a man to have his own space, especially if something was to happen and he needed an escape."

"He only wishes I used it for something more practical than getting away with things."

Re: The Shed

[identity profile] narnianhunter.livejournal.com 2010-04-11 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
"Yes!" he agreed. "I don't think Mum and Dad would mind so much if I didn't try to get away with things from them, but they and Uncle Peter are the most important people I know, and it's probably best to practice on the best."

"I suppose so. I'm getting hungry anyway." He was probably going to wander off and keep looking around. If he happened to find his parents, then that counted. "It was good to meet you, Mr Marcus."

"If I can't find them, I will, but I think I'll find them. I always do eventually." He was up off the couch and walking over to the door. "But thank you. Have a good afternoon!"

And he was gone. Thank goodness.

Yeah, try not to end the world on a weekend. Monday morning is fine.
