Pizza Planet [Sunday evening]

Triela wasn't at all sure what to feel about this little meeting (which wasn't a date). Given graduation and schedules and similar things, she wouldn't be surprised if this was the last conversation she really had with Leto.

Given how he tended to get her back up, and how flustered he often made her, that should have been a good thing, but she felt conflicted about it. Not that she was letting that show, she hoped. As she stood outside waiting for him to arrive, she ruthlessly suppressed the urge to tap her foot impatiently. Because that wouldn't do at all.

[Expecting the one.]

"Good evening, Triela," Leto said. "I hope I haven't kept you waiting." He smiled at her, like he usually did.

"Good evening, Leto," she responded with a careful nod. "I have not been waiting long." Which was even true. And if she sounded ever so slightly annoyed, well... that smile still threw her off balance and she didn't really know why.

Everything was as usual then, except that this was their last dinner together. Not that there had been many, but the option had always been there. He gestured for Triela to enter as he opened the door.

With a deep breath to calm herself, Triela complied. Her shoulders itched as she turned her back to Leto, not because she thought he'd attack her, or because she didn't trust him, but because... well... something. Whatever.

"Congratulations, by the way," she turned to say over her shoulder.

"Thank you." He waited for Triela to choose a table. "I'm leaving this week."

Triela nodded. "You have responsibilities." She understood.

And... maybe she'd miss him. Not that she'd say that.

He wouldn't expect her too. Leto took a seat and reached for the menu. "Which means I want to make the most of our last evening together."

For some reason that prompted a slight flush. Triela hoped her skin was dark enough to hide it.

"I don't suppose you'll have much time," or interest, "for visiting." Not that she cared.

"I won't be able to," he said. "But when it is possible," and for him that would take years, "I'll invite my friends to visit."

Triela's lip curled up in a ghost of an ironic smile. She knew it wouldn't be soon, after all. "I'm sorry I probably won't be around for that."

Was that what they were? Friends?

Huh. Maybe.

Well, what would she call them?

"Oh? Leaving so soon and with no option to visit old friends?" Somehow he wasn't surprised.

"I'd be surprised if I surprised if I'm still around in a couple of years," she shrugged. "Cybernetics are still experimental, after all."

And they took a huge toll on the minds and bodies of their users. The Agency didn't know when the first generation prototypes were going to fail, but Angelica was already on light duty and no one would be surprised when she didn't wake up one morning.

"It might not take years, Fandom time." Leto shifted his gaze from Triela to the menu. "What would you like?"

Triela considered her own menu for a minute. "Something light," she decided. "I'm not feeling especially hungry today."

Leto still tended to throw her... off.

"No?" He smiled again, then gestured for the waiter.

She shrugged, trying not to let the tension in her shoulders show. "No."

Triela slowly quirked an eyebrow. "I take it that you are?"

"Yes," he replied. "Also, I like pizza." And he ordered one with plenty of toppings.

"You're going to miss that when you go back, aren't you?" Triela sounded amused by the prospect.

"Very likely, yes." He grinned at Triela. "What are you going to miss when you leave Fandom?"

Triela considered that. "I'm not sure." She didn't really spend much time thinking that far ahead. She didn't even know if she'd be alive in a year, after all.

"No?" Leto looked at her.

She shrugged. "That's a year from now. I don't think that far ahead." Better not to be disappointed by not getting to the things you planned for.

"Why not?" he asked. Leto might guess tha reason, but asking questions was a good way to steer the conversation.

"Planning for the future is silly when you don't have one." Duh.

"Are you sure you don't have one?" Leto replied.
