Honestly, Adrian had been looking forward to work today. Not for the actual work, of course, but there were potentially new people to meet. And some of them might be hot, or at the very least interesting. And if he was really lucky, both.

There was also the little matter of having a certain dhampir using him for field experience. Since she kept refusing to use him for other things.

So Adrian was in a good mood today, even greeting Tino with, "Make yourself a drink, on me." He didn't realize or care why that still got him glared at.

Yep, still not using Adrian for anything other than the Field Experience.

Rose was there though and doing her best to fade into the background like a good proto-guardian. Yes.

Fading into the background or not, Adrian wasn't able to resist trying to talk to her. "I'm surprised you never look bored doing this," he admitted. He would have had a hard time ever figuring her for the background-fading type. It was sort of like a new side to her.

Rose glanced over at him, obviously surprised. "I don't look bored? Awesome."

"So I take that to mean you are bored," he said. "Obviously I need to be more entertaining while you're working."

"I don't think that's how it works," she pointed out. "Wouldn't want you to not do your job."

"Tino does my job," Adrian pointed out.

"Which makes everyone who comes here totally thankful," Rose decided.

"I know, they really come here to talk to me. Mixing drinks takes up socializing time," he nodded.

Rose looked around for all these people intent upon socialising with Adrian. "Clearly."

"It's early," he replied immediately.

She couldn't help snickering at that. "I'll remember that later."

"And if no one shows, they're all exhausted from the weekend. I'd just be too much for them." Sure.

"All that sparkling conversation and wit," Rose agreed dryly.

Adrian smirked. "It's like you know me."

At some point Dimitri pulled a notebook from his coat pocket and looked toward Rose before jotting something down with a shake of his head.

Maybe the head shake was related to her, or maybe it was just that his pen wasn't working quite the way he would have liked.

Rose frowned at that head shake, glancing around again to make sure she wasn't missing anything that he could comment on.

The hell, dude, the hell.

Soon enough Rose would get used to being assessed while she worked. Until then, Dimitri would watch her seriously for a few moments and follow it up with a nod as he took notes, his face failing to reveal any of his thoughts.

At least from afar.

Dimitri sat at the bar this week and actually ordered something not water (okay fine, it was flavored soda water) while looking quite capable of social interaction, even if he was moderately focused on the teenage girl over there, pretending she was capable of ever truly blending in. It was a job.

But for once, Dimitri was very nearly smiling.

"You look to be in way too good a mood," Adrian noticed, looking a little suspicious. Well maybe if you made his job easier, Adrian, he'd smile more.

"No different from any other day," Dimitri returned with a shrug. "I just don't happen to be on duty." Well, not completely on duty.

"Yeah, but you're..." He tried to mimic the very nearly smiling look. It probably didn't look the same. At all.

Dimitri raised his eyebrow at Adrian's terrible impression. "Is that supposed to be me?"

"As much as it can be when I don't look like you," he replied.

"I had no idea you thought I looked so ill," Dimitri said.

"Apparently you do," Adrian said, going with it. "Ill but in a good mood, what's up with that?"

It seemed Adrian was not very good at reading Dimitri. "There's nothing up. My moods change like anyone else's. Good or bad." He'd thought he'd been happy enough at Ashley's party among other events they'd both attended.

He was just trying to make conversation. "I know how moods work. I'm just wondering if there's a reason for it," he shrugged. "Good coffee, Shelley's not a rabbit at the moment, you're not obligated to put up with me..."

After spending several hours thinking he was Nathan Fillion, Tim needed a stiff drink.

"What's the strangest mixed drink name you can think of?"

"Strangely-named drinks are more Tino's area than mine," Adrian admitted. "Dare I ask why?"

Tim looked at Tino who was apparently looking through a drink catalogue for something really nasty. "I got Gremlin bit today. Though I suppose Oz got the worst of it.'

Adrian had very literally had no idea they had a drink catalogue. He wondered if the other bartenders knew about it. "I hear those are less than fun," he nodded.

"They can be fun I suppose if you have a sense of humor about yourself. Today was a little more embarrassing than others though."

Tino found a drink called the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster, and gave Tim an appraising look. Then he made the young man an Alaskan Polar Bear Heater instead.

Yep, still thinking the book comes out tomorrow.
