The Graveyard: Late Friday Night

You'd think Gunn would have better things to do on a Friday night than go on patrol.

But after his trip back home... well let's just say he's trying to get himself back on the "mission."

Just don't ask him what that mission is. He's not sure of that yet.

There was a shadow on the rooftop of the church.

Shadows. Yep. Plenty of shadows everywhere. Especially at night. Lot of shadows.

Of course Gunn can't investigate every shadow. Unless the shadow moves. Or is nearby. Or moving in his field of vision.

We'll just have to wait and see just what the heck this shadow is going to do...

Tim spotted someone in the graveyard. He couldn't see if the person had a weapon yet, so he crept forward to the edge of the roof to get a better look. Despite his effort to be quiet, he knocked a chunk of gravel loose and it tumbled to the street below.

Gunn wasn't sporting any weapons that anyone could see. Sure there were a couple of stakes he had stashed in the small of his back but that was covered by the ever present hoodie sweatshirt Gunn always wore.

And while he registered the sound coming from the church, he made sure that he didn't make any kind of noticeable reaction.

Though when he finished his spin around a certain gravestone he just happened to be heading in the church's direction.

Yeah, he'd been heard. Nice move, Robin. Okay, might as well make an entrance. Tim leapt off the roof, did a flip in the air and landed on a tombstone near Gunn in a crouch.

"Hello," he said. "What are you doing out here?"

Gunn watched the entrance with a startled step back and general expression known the world over as "WTF?"

"Just making sure nothing here decides to wake up and pester people," Gunn said warily. "Any reason you're leaping around in your pajamas?"

"They're not pajamas," Tim sighed. "I'm patrolling. You really expect corpses to wake up?"

"Uh. Yeah?" Gunn said as if this were an obvious thing. "You know. Zombies. Vampires. How long have you been in town? Because seriously, how does that sound crazy in a place like this?"

"Point," Tim admitted. They'd even had zombies in Gotham recently. "So you're, what, a zombie fighter?"

"Vampires, mostly. Demons too. Zombies on occasion," Gunn said trying to figure out just who this guy was. "And just who are you supposed to be? 'Cuz you look like something out of a comic."

"I'm Robin," Tim said. He even had a stylized "R" on his chest to prove it. "I'm a crimefighter back home."

Gunn wasn't exactly sure of the response. Okay, he got the crime fighting thing but... "Uh. Huh," he said with a raised eyebrow. "And that requires wearing a cape?"

"Fireproof and bulletproof," Tim explained. "And you, what, fight zombies and demons with your bare hands? Is that hoodie hiding some armor?"

Gunn shrugged and reached behind his back to pull out a stake, holding it away from Robin in a non-threatening way. "I can't afford any fancy outfits. And I don't think a mask is my kind of thing."

Tim frowned at the stake. "Do you have any powers? What kind of training do you have?"

Gunn shrugged and tried not to look smug. "Just me living the dream in inner-city LA."

[Heading to bed... will pick up pings later]

"You're out here to fight monsters with no armor, no training, no backup and just a short, pointy stick?" Tim asked.

[NP]

"Hey, not everyone can pull off a flashy outfit and a cape," Gunn said crossing his arms. "And since it's been relatively quiet lately, I'm not going out with a full arsenel. Haven't met a damn bloodsucker since I came to this town so I'm traveling light."

"That sounds like a good plan for a town without vampires," Tim said dryly.

"Yeah? And how's that body armor doing for you?" Gunn snarked back. "Keeping the crime rate low?"

Tim shrugged. "At least I'm ready if anything happens."

"Not to mention Halloween," Gunn said shaking his head in amusement.

"That too," Tim said. Okay, the guy didn't appear to be a threat. Now if he'd just look the other way for a moment, Tim could make a stealthy exit.

After spending some time with puzzles earlier in the evening, it was time for Bruce to get out and get some exercise. Sometimes that meant skulking around in graveyards in the middle of the night. Gotham's murder rate was high. It was going to be something he did a lot in the future to solve cases.

He wasn't really expecting to find anyone else in the graveyard, but he couldn't honestly say that he was completely surprised to find someone here. He didn't want to sneak up on Gunn and get attacked - more out of convenience than concern - so he called out, "Getting some air?"

Gunn let out a small chuckle. "Yeah. You could say something like that," he replied. "Just making sure the dead is staying dead. Know what I mean?"

Hey, it's been a few weeks into the summer quarter. Gunn had no problem admitting that the supernatural existed to people he hadn't met yet.

"Well, I'd guess you're not being figurative," Bruce joked. "Are you watching for any specific kind of undead, or just keeping a general eye out?"

"Used to have a bit of vampire trouble back in my old neighborhood," Gunn said with a head bob toward his wooden stake. "Though any kind of strangeness on this island needs to be looked at if you ask me."

"So you're some kind of vigilante against vampires?" Bruce asked, trying to sound as though he would never consider taking on a job like that. "And other strangeness. How did you fall into that role?"

"My old neighborhood was a regular stomping ground for the undead," Gunn said with a smug look and a shrug. "So me an some other civic minded locals formed a... club."

Riiiight. A club.

"Dedicated to taking out the trash in the neighborhood, I'm sure," Bruce said. "Very charitable."

"Well someone has to keep the bad element out," Gunn chuckled. "Keeps us from becoming happy meals."

"As far as I know, we don't have vampires in my world, but I can empatize. We just have regular human beings who are just as bad," Bruce said, managing to keep his anger over that under control.

Gunn let out a small grunt of agreement. "Never fails to amaze me how people who have souls can be worse than the soulless."
