Turtle & Canary, Tuesday, 06/08

The front of the general store was filled with old-fashioned bicycles with baskets attached to the handlebars today. There were all sizes and colors: Red, blue, silver, purple with pink handlebars ...

And each and every bicycle had a fleshy, ruddy unsliced mango sitting proudly in the basket. Didi asked Apu what was going on, but wouldn't even meet her eyes as he plead ignorance.

She snagged a plump mango from the basket of a pink bicycle, planning to slice it for lunch, and made a sign for the front window:

SPECIAL SALE: FREE BICYCLE WITH EVERY MANGO PURCHASED.
Squishy Flavors: Mango, Chili Mango, Mango Pineapple

T&C was open. Mind the bicycles.

[OOC: OCD got all sticky with mango juice. Post inspired by [livejournal.com profile] death_of_hope.]

Aquaman was having a boring ass day at work busy day today! He had all these baskets, even after giving some away, so he figured the next best things to do with his baskets was do a little shopping! He could put his purchases right in the basket! It seemed almost serendipitous.

Although intending to do some browsing in the shelves, it was impossible not to notice the excellent sale. "Free bicycle with every mango purchased!" he repeated the sign's good news with clear delight. "What an outrageous deal!"

"By Triton's tricycle!" Aquaman smiled with broad acceptance. "Letting us test the merchandise, even! A good, honest saleswoman, well done! I'd love to, if you don't mind. Should I take it outside?"

There was, however, a slight lingering in his voice that may have signified being unable to refuse a chance to ride around the actual story. A day like this, it was good to embrace a certain playful side to oneself.

Of course Aquaman had ridden a bicycle before, but, after being put down so harshly by Lieutenant Sarah earlier, he was definitely in need of whimsy. To think he'd only come for groceries, too!

"I'm not sure," he said playfully. "Is it anything like riding a dolphin or a seahorse?"

Because he'd done those. Of course he'd done those.

It was nice when that happened, rare as it was, to feel like he was being taken seriously. Aquaman grinned.

"You bet there are! It would be kind of difficult to ride on a difficult one. Well, unless you were shrunk down to atom size. That happened to me and a friend, once; we had to go inside Batman to battle the evil inside of his bloodstream, in an adventure I like to call 'Journey to the Center of the Bat!'"

"Why," said Aquaman, puffing with pride, "it's the very center of my entire life! The fulcrum of my being! The thread that binds me all together!"

"Oh, no, no, no!" said Aquaman, shaking his head and holding out a hand. "The sale is so good on its own, it would be downright criminal to take it for free!"
