Caritas | Monday

Adrian had expected a pretty normal night at work his first day back from home. And while it probably would be quiet like usual, there was no Tino. Instead, there was Jaina, who had switched shifts with Tino when she'd been out of town this weekend, and apparently had no idea that Tino had ditched out on Saturday ~~cuz the player failed at posting it~~.

Even from opposite ends of the bar, all Adrian could think was shit, he'd actually have to work today.

[Had to try something new. Either person's pingable, idc.]

It was Monday and so there was at least one guardian in Caritas, though this one was technically observing and off-duty. Considering the reasoning for new part-time situation Dimitri didn't want to miss out on an evening. Just in case.

Also, they had really good water.

Of course as Adrian was handing over what he considered to be Dimitri's usual, he had to ask, "Is there anything else you want? Something with flavor, maybe?"

Last night's drinks had offered plenty of flavor, meaning the water was a good thing. "I'm good with this, thanks. I'm surprised you didn't get Jaina to serve like Tino." Really he wasn't.

"Yeah, that sounds like a great idea," Adrian nodded. "Why don't you try?" He so knew he wouldn't.

"Because I'm here for the oh so pleasant company, not to do your work for you," Dimitri answered, taking a drink of his water with a smile.

"That's right, my company is pleasant," he said, zoning in on the one thing that sounded vaguely complimentary. "And don't you forget it." ~~Stop flirting, Adrian.~~

That was quite the flirtatious tone Adrian was taking. It was good Dimitri was blind to this on most days. "I'm sure you will never let that happen. How was your trip to Court?"

"Parties, avoiding parents, more parties... About the usual," he shrugged. "How was the future?" He doubted Dimitri would be even the tiniest bit more forthcoming than Rose was whenever he asked stuff like that, but he'd try.

"Enlightening," Dimitri shared, thinking about his conversation with the other Adrian. "There was a lot going on all at once. You're still alive, in case you wondered."

"I hadn't realized I should be questioning that," he admitted.

"For a Moroi who arrived in town without his own guardian you must consider yourself very safe." Which was odd to Dimitri, given his chosen profession and Adrian's status as nephew to the Queen.

"I just tend not to worry," Adrian explained. "And nothing bad has happened to me so far." Of course, that was in part due to Rose and Dimitri.

Hawkeye decided that tonight was a good night to go to all the effort of walking across the street to get a drink. He slid onto a bar stool.

"Bartender, I'm in need of a drink. A martini as dry as my throat is the first thing that comes to mind."

"Well, without knowing how dry your throat is- and I don't need details- I'm going to have to take a guess," Adrian warned.

"A martini with an air of mystery? I know I'm excited. I haven't had a mysterious martini since I used to strain my own with old socks. It wasn't the good kind of mystery."

"I'm very glad you're on that side of the bar," Adrian decided, getting the drink together.

"So am I, but I'm guessing not for the same reasons. I'm much more partial to the sitting and drinking part of the evening. Drinking and then trying to muster the coordination to keep preparing drinks is a lot harder than it sounds."

"I've learned it gets easier," he said, passing over the martini. "Though I think it's easier when you're making your own, and any alcohol spilled is something you're wasting."

"I can't abide wasting alcohol, and so tonight I defer to you to do the pouring. Are you a professional bartender or doing a round of Fandom moonlighting?"

"I'm a college student," Adrian replied, complete with air quotes, since, yeah he wasn't so much in school at the moment. "So both, really."

"A college student in a town with no colleges," Hawkeye replied knowingly. "You'd be more of a professional bartender than some professional bartenders. What's your major?"

"I took art," he admitted, not ever sure how well that went over with people.

"Then you, sir, are a joining a long line of talented drinkers and drink-givers."

Adrian lifted his own glass, because of course he had one, not denying that at all. "I don't remember seeing you in here before."

"I'm not as sociable as I was in my youth." Which was a polite way of saying he usually drank alone. "Hawkeye Pierce. Doctor, surgeon, teacher, ex-Vice Principal, radio announcer. I get around."

"Adrian Ivashkov." It'd been a while since he'd been able to use the last name in an introduction like that. "I'm assuming 'I get around' means 'I'm never not busy.'"

"Good to meet you, Adrian. I keep myself moderately occupied. I spent a few years of my life with long periods of boring interspersed with moments of sheer terror. I've tried not to make a habit of it since then."

Rose was there as was her job. She was pretty good with it being her job and with not having to do anything at all with alcohol tonight. Cause wow, no.

There was certainly no good reason for Dimitri to have ordered a second water from Adrian and moved down the bar to place it by Rose with a small smile.

Certainly he didn't think she needed his help in staying hydrated.

She looked up at him with a little smirk. "Making sure I take my medicine?" she teased softly.

"Of course not," he insisted. "Just making sure you don't go thirsty while you're focusing."

"It's sweet how you're worried about that," she decided.

"I have a vested interest," Dimitri pointed out. "You're feeling better then?" Because whiskey hangovers could be painful and long-lasting.

"I'm okay," Rose told him, looking up at him with a little smile. "But I'm pretty sure I don't ever wanna drink whiskey again."

There went any chance of future whiskey craziness. "That sounds like good news for me," he teased.

"Next time it'll be tequila," she murmured, just barely loud enough for Dimitri to hear.

Dimitri flashed her a brief grin for even considering a next time. "We'll see. Maybe I can introduce you to real vodka," he answered quietly.

"As long as it's not along with that beet stuff," Rose teased, making a face at him.

"You complain but you don't know," he reminded her. "One day I will open your mind to possibilities."

The affection in her eyes was apparent as she looked at him over the rim of the glass of water she'd finally taken a drink from. "That sounds fair."

I wanna go back on vacation. OH WAIT, ALMOST CAN. :D
