Pizza Planet- Sunday afternoon

Jane had survived her first week in Fandom, mainly by keeping to herself and not leaving her room. To be perfectly honest, the kids at the picnic had freaked her out some. Everyone was just so nice, and gave her things without expecting anything in return. It was creepy. It went against nature.

Today Jane had decided to do something normal, and that meant pizza. It also meant sitting alone at the booth with a pizza to herself, and staring across at where she felt Daria should be. Despite the issues last year over the whole Tom situation, Jane figured that at this point, she felt okay enough to give a call from the pizza place.

...And got the answering machine. "Daria, hi! It's Jane, your best friend. I'm in Stepford, where the hell are you? Call me back."

Once that was done, it was back to staring at the empty seat. She might have been mentally redecorating it, or at least mentally painting a little mural on it.

[So open.]

It took Alexander just about a week to feel comfortable enough around the school and the dorms to begin to explore the village without constantly worrying that an authority figure would show up, demand to know what he was doing there, and then kill him with some grisly magic.

Oddly enough, having that fear did not seem to cross over into talking to random people he met along the way. It was the wonderful aromas that had enticed him into this place, and now he realized that it was all so foreign to him. However, there was a girl sitting by herself who might not mind helping him out...

"Excuse me," he approached the girl's table and addressed her with the utmost politeness. "Perhaps you could assist me. I have never been to an establishment such as this before, and I'm agog as to where to even begin! Might you have some suggestions?"

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, yes," said Alexander, smiling a little, "I managed to assume that far, but it appears as though there are endless varieties available, if one were to peruse the menu for a bit."

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"What's an essatie?"

Whatever it was, it sounded intriguing.

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's sort of the conundrum," Alexander admitted with a laugh. "I've never had one, so I'm not entirely sure! What might you suggest?"

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well," Alexander said, obediently taking a seat across from the girl at the table as he spoke, "I'm from a land called Daventry. It's very far from here, and no one I've met so far has even heard of it. But it is a rather small country, and I am beginning to think even further away than I had first assumed. My name is Alexander, by the way, and thank you for sharing your pepperoni."

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"No," said Alexander thoughtfully, inspecting the pizza curiously before realizing that it, like mutton, was something probably best consumed by using your hands, and reaching for a slide. "I don't believe I'm familiar with those lands....I've never heard of any of the lands mentioned here! I'm half ready to believe that this is some sort of alternate world entirely, but that's rather difficult to swallow!"

The pizza, however, was not, much to Alexander's delight.

"Zounds! That is good!"

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes!" said Alexander, forgoing princely manners for a moment as his mouth was still full, and he took another bite. "I do! It tastes just as good as it smells, if not better, easily." And another bite. "What an ingenious combination, it all compliments itself so well, and it's even made in such a convenient to eat form!"

And the next thing he knew, the slice was gone. He was perhaps eying the others between himself an Jane, looking over at the girl a little hopefully, a little sheepishly, and asked, "May I?" A second slice was totally calling his name.

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well," Alexander thoughtfully chewed around his next slice, "have you ever heard of someone who hadn't been acquainted with the food before?"

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"And capitalism, what might that be?" asked Alexander, who, though from a world still stuck in the mire of a feudal system, seemed perfectly content and intrigued with this pizza and learning about America set-up that had occurred.

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 09:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Alexander considered this. Having spent most of his life as a slave, money was never really that much of an issue for him, but this could be important if he was to take this as American culture.

"So..." he ventured, "would it be incorrect, then, to assume that America is a society with an appreciation for convenient foods and great wealth?"

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"Really?" This detail seemed to strike Alexander with a little bit of a surprise; while he had easily seen the other two traits on display around him, he had to admit... "I would have never guess it from the population at this school, if that's a fair sampling."

And the irony of the fact that he, too, was finding another slice was completely missed on Alexander.

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Which, of course, caused Alexander to pause; he filled that pause with a bit of a laugh and a sheepish smile. "And, I assume you'll probably not going to be surprised when I now admit that I don't entirely know what you mean by a siedouble yousho."

It sounded exotic.

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nope." Really, Alexander couldn't even feel too embarrassed or bad about it, either. "Can't say I do."

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Er, no," said Alexander after a moment. "I don't technically have a last name, unless you'd count 'of Daventry.'"

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-11 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
"Actually," Alexander realized after a moment of thought, "I don't think I've known anyone with a last name until I started attending school here."

They hadn't even gotten that far in civilization yet; was it really a wonder he didn't know about pizza after all?

Since coming to Fandom, Karla had developed a real appreciation for pizza. It was quick, it was tasty, and came with a near-infinite variety of toppings. What wasn't to like?

Walking through town today, Karla had noticed yet another reason to stop by the pizza place: her new little sib. She hadn't seen the girl since the newbie picnic and decided now was as good a time as any to check up on her.

"Kiss kiss," she said, waving as she walked into Pizza Planet. "How're you settling in?"

"Even better, they deliver," Karla said, smiling a bit at Jane. "Mind if I sit while they're making me order?" she asked. "I promise not to steal yours."

The scary part of Fandom? That could totally be true. Which was why Karla paused a moment before taking her seat, giving any invisible entities time to shift space. "How are your classes?" she asked as she slid in the booth. "Which ones are you taking? Any truly insane teachers?"

There were several she could chose from, really.
