Book Haven, Tuesday
Her conversation with Hayley yesterday had left her in a worried and thoughtful mood. Hayley had seemed cheerful enough, but there had been several comments that left her feeling uneasy.
It made studying a little bit more difficult than it usually was as she had problems focusing.
Eventually she simply gave up and contented herself with people watching by the window. It passed the time and left her free to try and pinpoint what was bothering her so.

Talk to Hinata
Re: Talk to Hinata
Yes, it was another cheeseburger day. Why not?
"I managed to get them to put cheese on all of the cheeseburgers, this time." Which totally counted as a huge success! "They forgot everything else on there, but I picked up some pickles and ketchup and mustard on the way here."
Re: Talk to Hinata
"I almost have to wonder about their hearing," she said, smiling lightly. "Though I suppose they could have legitimately presumed you had wanted plain cheeseburgers." It happened. She didn't mind.
Stepping away from the window, she gently shooed Yei out of her path. "You did not have to, however, th-though I'll not say no to you now that you're here."
Re: Talk to Hinata
"I know I didn't have to," he pointed out, making his way to the counter and depositing the bag there. "I wanted to. How has your shift been so far, Hinata?"
Re: Talk to Hinata
"Quiet," she said finally. "It seems as though a bookstore is not the most popular of places in the midst of summer."
Re: Talk to Hinata
Warren wasn't really a professional in summertime pastimes, but at least he was trying.
"What do you have that's good?"
Re: Talk to Hinata
"To read?" Hinata shook her head. "That depends on your tastes. I prefer either fantasy or reference novels."
Re: Talk to Hinata
"I don't really dabble in fantasy much," he admitted. "Growing up, it was mostly biology books and math textbooks, and economics. Things that are interesting if you already have an interest in them, you know? I wouldn't mind picking up some good fiction sometime, just to see what it's about."
Re: Talk to Hinata
And some of it was just plain bad.
“Did you want a few recommendations?”
Re: Talk to Hinata
Warren's face was now screwed up in a mask of concentration. Getting the perfect mustard to ketchup ratio on one's fast-food burger was a delicate science, after all.
"What have you been reading lately?"
Re: Talk to Hinata
She was less picky.
"Me? Mostly law books," Hinata admitted. "Which are informative but not particularly exciting. I would suggest you try Lord of Snow and Shadows which is the first in The Tears of Artamon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tears_of_Artamon) trilogy. They're quite dark in places but very well written."
Hinata grinned faint. "Dragons. Vampires. War and love. It covers many bases." And had a likable heroine.
Re: Talk to Hinata
Please say yes! Please say yes! If the first one turned out to be a good read, he'd want to leap right into the second, after all.
Re: Talk to Hinata
Re: Talk to Hinata
At least he chewed and swallowed before he continued speaking. "And you've been reading up on law, too? Did Professor Cabot's class leave an impression on you, last term?"
As an afterthought, a few more fries were now being stuffed into his burger, for important experimental purposes.
Re: Talk to Hinata
She was not a teenaged boy. Her burger and fries were going to stay neatly separate. "It's not the first class I've taken here on the law," she replied. "Th-Though I appreciate Professor Cabot's take on it the most, I believe."
... Way to not answer the question, Hinata.
Re: Talk to Hinata
"Her last class was an interesting one," he decided. "I didn't get to register for her workshop this term, though. Paperwork errors."
Yeah. Instead of ending up in any courses about justice, he was in both of the classes that were very much the polar opposite. He was still trying to figure out how in the world that had happened.
Re: Talk to Hinata
Re: Talk to Hinata
His loss.
"What are those like? I can only imagine what a Fandom High home ec course would look like."
Re: Talk to Hinata
"His name," Hinata said, very dryly. "Is Aquaman. Or King of Atlantis. We designed superhero costumes yesterday."
Re: Talk to Hinata
There were some things that Warren would never be able to wrap his head around, yes.
"Is he really the King of Atlantis, at least?"
You could never be too sure. He'd had a casual Monday dinner with the Prince of Hell last week.
Re: Talk to Hinata
Well. It probably was truth considering the island...
Re: Talk to Hinata
And with that, he took a bite of his burger.
Mmm, fry-y.
Re: Talk to Hinata
"I will let you decide for yourself whether that is a good idea or not," she said. "My other class is much more pleasing. Cooking--with a teacher who is sane."
Re: Talk to Hinata
Some really nasty burger-with-fried-potato sort of point.
"I suppose I'll forgive you, on the grounds that I like you."
Re: Talk to Hinata
"We have not cooked anything yet," Hinata replied lightly. "I would not bring you store-bought goods and lie about their origins."
Re: Talk to Hinata
"Just this once."
