Pixie Dust, Friday

Jenny opened up the store on Friday and sat down behind the counter to smoke, drink, and work her way through the mountain of paperwork she'd let build up. Just your typical Friday, really.

After all this paperwork, she was going to have to burn something. She had her eye on a blindingly yellow top. With sequins. It had to cease to exist.

It had been a week, but Quinn was still more than a little annoyed at how the redhead (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/5267040.html) had treated her.

... also, she really wanted that sundress the girl had shown her, and she hadn't found it online anywhere. She figured if she went in on a different day she might find a manager or, if not, buy it without losing face.

"Hi," she called, making a beeline back to Jenny. "Is there a manager in today?"

"I hope so," Quinn said, with a smile that bore some passing resemblance to being pleasant but, really, wasn't. "I was in here a little over a week ago and your clerk refused to sell me anything without a kiss. I think that's wrong and really, really twisted."

It was also not exactly what had happened.

"The redheaded mute," Quinn said, accurately if not terribly kindly. "The sort of aggressively pretty one who works Tuesdays. I didn't catch her name."

She gestured to the window. "The one who put the sign up about free kisses with every purchase. Which -- what is that?"

That was ... pretty much what she would have expected (though if Jenny hadn't made an offer along those lines, she would have asked for Ariel to be fired), actually, and Quinn nodded.

"That'll do," she said. "Thank you for being reasonable. I'd picked out a dress -- can I have a discount on it if you still have it in my size?"

And Quinn thought Jenny meant Ariel should take the sign down, or stop the policy altogether. Ah, miscommunication.

"... because your clerk was rude to me?" she tried patiently. "And I'm trying to give you money."

"Okay, I know this island is the capital of Crazyland," Quinn drawled, with the same exaggerated patience, "but where I come from, it's rude to refuse to sell something to someone because they don't want to kiss you. It's actually kind of assault."

No, it wasn't.

"What do you mean, you'd give her a bonus?"

"... oh." Quinn was deflated and a bit aimless, with anger that didn't really have anywhere to go. She gave punching Jenny in the nose a longer and more wistful thought than it probably deserved, then:

"All right. I don't think we're going to come to an agreement," she said, with as much dignity as she could manage. "Enjoy not selling things."

The dress got a wistful look, but principles were principles.

"It's a no to buying clothes here. They're all defective anyhow."

"What about that yellow thing with sequins?" Quinn asked, equally mildly. "I think RuPaul's Drag Race rejected it for being too tacky."

She was interested, though. Burning ugly stuff had a certain therapeutic-slash-charitable appeal.
