The Beach / Monday / August 16, Early Morning

Azula strode to her favorite corner of the beach, her steps measured and deliberate. It was still cold out but Azula took no notice the same way she took no notice of the yawning and complaining person behind her.

It was better for the both of them that she did or else she would be tempted to throw Momoko into the water.

Azula stopped, considered the strip of sand and looked at Momoko. "We're here."

Yawning and not really noticing where they were going, Momoko stopped just short of running into her friend and new alarm clock teacher. "But why so early? I still don't see what's wrong with, like, lunch time or something?"

"Because." Yes, that's the only answer Momoko was going to get. "Do your forms, Momoko."

Ooh! If that was all, they could go get breakfast maybe? "Just the katas? Awesome." Momoko covered a yawn. She didn't mind training (well, she did, but she knew she needed it) just not this early.

"The ones from Ms Faith's class, right? I'm only good up to the intermediate..." yawn "... ones, then I start to have trouble." She pulled her hair back, fell into her stance and started to move.

Azula watched the katas with a critical eye. It was a different sort of technique than she was used to, it was a little stiffer compared to the flowing movements of Firebending.

"I want to see your defenses," she said. And, that was the only warning Momoko got as Azula lunged forward.

"EH?!" Momoko shrieked in surprise. She brought her hands up in the instinctive block, but still managed to fall to the sand from the surprise attack. "Azula! Warn me!"

"Why?" She demanded, coming to a stop. She straightened, looking loose and relaxed.

"Uhm. Because I wasn't ready!" Momoko blinked back at her. Azula wasn't even breaking a sweat after that?

"Do you think your enemies will give you a warning if they attack?" Azula asked. "Do you think they will come to you and say, 'politely', 'Brace yourself, Momoko. I shall attack you."

Momoko sighed and got back up from the sand. "They did back home," she mumbled, reminded once again that her world was totally different from everyone else's.

"Okay. So, to get better I need to expect everyone to attack me whenever? That totally sounds like a really bad movie plot."

"They announced--" Azula shook her head then rolled her eyes. "No, Momoko, I do not expect you to be paranoid. I expect you to be aware of your surroundings at all times."

Well, to be fair, it was more that the monsters in her world were pretty low in the smarts category and so tended to brag and monologue a lot.

"But I was aware that you were here and I still didn't expect you to attack."

"That was also a lesson in expecting the unexpected." She offered her hand to Momoko. "Up."

"So, expect the unexpected while being aware but not paranoid?" Momoko rolled her eyes, but accepted Azula's hand. "Ugh. Dinah keeps saying that if I train enough it will become automatic, and the katas sort of are? But I still don't use the moves right when I actually need them."

Which was totally annoying since she had picked up fighting really quickly as Blossom.
