The Junkyard, Friday Evening

To make a new lightsaber, one needed -- among other things -- metal for the casing. The junkyard had plenty of that. If she'd been anywhere at home, instead of in Fandom, Tahiri would have started doing this before now; she was a little surprised at herself that she hadn't yet, actually.

With boots on to protect her feet from any sharp and/or rusty edges, she was picking through a couple of piles near her X-Wing for likely prospects. There were other things she'd need, of course: the electrical components, a power cell, and the part she didn't have the slightest clue how to find just yet, the focusing crystal. Still, she might as well get started with what she could.

He laughed and glanced at the sun. "It might if I stay shirtless out in the sun, unless you want me to match the skin tone of Master Cilghal."

"You redheads." Tahiri reached up to ruffle his hair. "A little light from a planet with only one sun and you turn the color of your landspeeder."

"Shhhhh, blame Mom's genes," he said. "Dad tans like you do."

[weetuskenraider]

"Yes, I had noticed," Tahiri said, wondering what would happen if she traced his nipple with the tip of her tongue.

Now is not a good time to discuss parents, Tahiri.

He'd probably not fall off of the X-Wing?

"You spend a lot of time staring at my Dad?"

Stop talking, Ben.

"What? No!" Tahiri yelped. "There was that time with the clothes-eating goo, but the lighting was bad and I wasn't looking!"

Once again, they failed amazingly at romantic.

"Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww," Ben said eloquently.

[weetuskenraider]

"Yeah." Tahiri cleared her throat. "Um. Maybe we should get you out of the sunshine, anyway."

[momslilassassin]

"Maybe," Ben agreed. "Your room or mine?"

He blushed. "I didn't mean for that to sound quite so...blatant."

[weetuskenraider]

"Why would it be?" Tahiri asked, just before her eyes went wide. "Oh. Oh. Right. Um. My room? I know it'll be empty."

[momslilassassin]

Ben grinned at her before flipping off of the X-Wing like a complete showoff. "I like empty."

So of course Tahiri -- after buttoning herself back up -- had to follow suit, adding a half-twist to her somersault so she landed backwards and had to spin to face him. "Well, isn't that just convenient for you, then?"

"Well, we could stuff Ender in the closet, but I think he'd get upset," Ben replied.

[weetuskenraider]

"You're awful, Ben," Tahiri protested . . . not as effectively as she could have, given the giggling. "I like your roommate too much for that."

He reached for her hand. "Yeah, I do too," he admitted. "Besides, he's something of a tactical genius. The closet would only hold him for a little while."

"He'd come out of there eventually," Tahiri agreed, linking her fingers with his. "What, have you tried it?"

[momslilassassin]

"No," Ben said, "but there have been days I've been tempted."

[weetuskenraider]

"You have the most interesting ways of showing love," Tahiri told him.

[momslilassassin]

His eyebrows went up. "You mean I shouldn't lock people in closets?"

[weetuskenraider]

Tahiri grinned, and she was glad she could smile about this. "Oh, I don't know. Sometimes good things come out of it. But generally, I think it's discouraged."

[momslilassassin]

"Noted," he said, giving her fingers a squeeze. "Besides, he'd be alone in there."

[weetuskenraider]

"And that would be awful," Tahiri agreed. "So it's a good thing we don't have to worry about that if we go to my room."
