The Beach, Friday Morning
Kate would have to go to work soon, for her second day of harassing people over the phone about their debts. (Or, in most cases, harassing other people over the phone so they'd harass the person with the debt for her, but anyway.) The first day had been fine enough. At least she'd be getting paid. At least there'd be some non-Fandomness to her life.
But last night's dreams had left her in a pretty melancholy mood. Talking to Elphaba about Liir some days ago had made her miss him a bit, and apparently when that was coupled with Hannibal leaving and knowing Mitchell was stuck elsewhere, her brain had just decided it was time to mope about people who had left.
And there were a few. Liir, Hannibal, Joan, even Jack...
And of course Leto. And it was for the desert prince that Kate was on the beach right now. It was completely backwards, and she knew that, but the beach always reminded her of him. They didn't have a desert on the island, so something he didn't particularly like would have to do instead of something he really did.
It wasn't a rare thing that she missed Leto, no. She missed him every single time things were hard. Every time she had to explain her feelings or overcome some boundary of her own making. She generally didn't have to do that with him. And she felt almost guilty about missing him and how easy things had been with them, when she had Bod who didn't seem to want anything but good things for her, but she couldn't help it. It was just hitting her kind of hard right now.
Stupid dreams.
So, here she was, in her sensible but cute work outfit, just... standing on the beach, looking out towards the ocean. It was that kind of a day.
[ooc: Open place in town is indeed open.I'm about to head into town for about an hour to sign up for some classes (noooo classes ugh), but I'll be around most of the day afterwards! All signed up, and around.]

Coming upon Kate was a benefit even if she looked pensive. Still, he smiled when he saw her and wandered over, hands in his pockets and shoes kicking up sand.
"You look almost hypnotized," he said quietly, trying not to startle her.

"Mm, that happens," she said mildy, before glancing at him and giving him a little smile. "Hi."

He'd missed that new tidbit of information.

Better late than never, right?
"Uh huh, I had the interview on Wednesday," she told him, grin widening a bit as she actually turned towards him. "Yesterday was my first day."

And no, she wasn't going to tell him what job she'd thought she was interviewing for.
"It's mostly just calling people and trying to get them to pay off their debt," she continued, then perked up a little again. "But whenever I get someone to pay up, I get five per cent commission."
And that meant money, which was awesome.

And his lack of experience with debt collecting was obvious right there.
"How has it been thus far?"

But she was determined to get to ring that little bell, so she wasn't feeling all that discouraged. She'd only been there for a day.
