Luke's Diner, September 20 (Monday)

A week in, Lacey was pleased to note that the hydroponic wall planters were still there, and thriving; she spent possibly far too long fussing over the plants (and talking to them, yes, she took the idea of talking to plants more to heart in Fandom than she would anywhere else) and making sure they had enough water and nutrients before she so much as started cleaning up the diner in preparation to open for the day.

The salad bar area -- relocated near the wall planters -- had pride of place today, stacks of plates arranged tastefully next to silverware and brightly-colored dishes of tomatoes, beets, yellow peppers, other pretty vegetables, and all the dressings and toppings she could think of. Dangling from fishing line over the salad bar was a neatly hand-lettered sign that read "NEW SPECIAL" -- Pick-Your-Own-Salad Bar!

Look, just because Dog River had given her crap over improperly using quotation marks for emphasis, it didn't mean she was above trying it again in Fandom. It had been long enough. (About that definition of insanity, Lacey . . .)

The specials board was up as usual, though.

Luke's is open, and just chock-full of healthy entrepreneurial ambition, isn't it?

"I don't find my name on anything today," noted Angua as she took up her usual lunchtime stool.

She sounded incredibly pleased about this; it was like an early birthday present she actually wanted.

Angua was not going to bother hiding her groan and slight deflation, and she tried to think if she'd ever heard of anything that might particularly help boost people's imaginations.

"But Pick-Your-Own-Salad Bar is pretty catchy. So straight forward and to the point. Really, no confusion. I think it could work!"

...No.

"See, now," Angua offered, feeling suddenly inspired and incredibly proud of this one, "naming it after someone I might know just makes me think of cannibalism."

Or a Car--

Nope, she was going to think it.

She was just going to shrug slightly. "All I know," Angua offered, "is I'd feel weird about eating a Lacey salad. No offense, of course."

And she was fairly sure you didn't have to be a vegetarian werewolf to feel that way.

Oh, Lacey. How Angua would forever marvel at the fact that she didn't even need to smell your lies.

She sighed, debating in her head whether it was really that important to stick to this if this is what it did to poor Lacey.

"Well," she offered, "a Lacey salad probably is a pretty catch name, I've got to admit. It rolls off the tongue a lot better than an Angua salad. Most people don't even know how to pronounce my name. And would you want to have it stuck with being called a von Überwald? That just sounds dirty."

They weren't even going to talk about Delphine.
