A Clearing In The Preserve, Thursday Evening

This evening, there was a bit more activity going on in the preserve than the usual scampering and frolicking of the teal deer and the alots. Tonight, there were paper lanterns strung up through the branches and along the trees, there were tables set up in the clearing, and there was music. If it lacked a banner and balloons, they were hoping the glimmer of the lantern lights in the darkness made up for it.

Ino was turning seventeen, and there was only one thing to be done about it. Zack had sent out the e-mail yesterday, and he and Karla had taken care of the food and the cakes and the decorations, and, once Zack managed to get Ino to join them, they were going to celebrate!

[Up a little early for PARTY TIME goodness! Open!]

"It's not as if it'd hide who I am," Elphaba said. She carefully approached, noting mentally that this would, in fact, be the first time she hugged someone that was not a family member.

No one really ever wanted to hug Elphaba back in Oz other than Nessa, really.

"And as it is your party, I believe you make the rules, not Zack."

Ino liked hugs! And that meant she was going to wrap her arms around Elphaba freely and beam before letting go--she didn't want to push Elphaba too far out of her comfort zone.

Yay hugs!

"Theoretically I do," she admitted. "But he pouts and I am weak to that."

Elphaba raised an eyebrow, being completely unfamiliar with the power of a pout that was not her sister's. "Then he must mean quite a lot," she said. "If he has such power with just a simple expression."

She wasn't so good at the casual conversation, Elphaba.

She flushed.

"Well," Ino said, toying with her hair. "He's pretty much the--most important person I got to me, you know? So, guess that helps...?"

"Even more than your family?" Elphaba asked, curious. Even if he'd never shown true affection, she still loved her father deeply. And Nessa, well... she was her only friend, before Fandom.

"I do love my family," Ino said slowly, "but I've been living here goin' on my fourth year now, you know? So what's right here, right now, feels more--immediate?"
