A Clearing In The Preserve, Thursday Evening

This evening, there was a bit more activity going on in the preserve than the usual scampering and frolicking of the teal deer and the alots. Tonight, there were paper lanterns strung up through the branches and along the trees, there were tables set up in the clearing, and there was music. If it lacked a banner and balloons, they were hoping the glimmer of the lantern lights in the darkness made up for it.

Ino was turning seventeen, and there was only one thing to be done about it. Zack had sent out the e-mail yesterday, and he and Karla had taken care of the food and the cakes and the decorations, and, once Zack managed to get Ino to join them, they were going to celebrate!

Did you bring a mask? Do you need one? There's a table set out piled high with plenty of also moddable masks for you to grab one if you need it. And now that you're all set, just hang around and enjoy the party, while you wait for the birthday girl to arrive and once she's here!

Karla was there, holding her mask in place and surveying the lanterns. The alot of masks and alot of lanterns kept trying to snuffle around the food, so she occasionally had her hands full with shooing them off.

The mask Bod chose felt a little unwieldy but he wore it anyway since the email had said to do so.

He wandered idly around the area, hands in his pockets.

As promised, Hannibal was there, looking rather dapper in his mask (http://www.madisonavemall.com/products/product.asp?SKU=M17GLDJWLDMASK&cid=111). It felt good to be back so he was just going to wander around and soak up the island for the short time he was there.

Quinn didn't really know Ino, but she figured that if they were two of three girls on the Student Council, and Ino was the only senior, she had better suss Ino out fast if she didn't want to be marginalized or on minion duty all year.

Besides: Party. Parties were fun. She picked a pink and silver mask (http://www.yacanna.com/images/AMG/M7240-Pink.jpg) off the table and joined the mingling throng.

Once Zack had arrived with Ino in tow, he grabbed a mask for himself and set straight to mingling. Hi, people!

Yeah, this was pretty awesome, if he did say so himself.

Tahiri's mask was half white, half black; really, when she saw that one she knew she had to pick it.

If she'd been trying to disguise herself, it would have failed spectacularly on the spot, given the Jedi robes, mass of blonde hair and telltale bare feet.

Kennedy and Ino were hardly good friends, but she wasn't letting that stop her from enjoying the party. She'd picked out a half-mask in deep burgundy and was sporting a slightly strained (thanks, Ethics) grin to go with it.

And taking mental notes; that bar she was trying to outdo for Tara's birthday just kept getting higher, huh?

Bruce made his way into the Preserve, jotting down the path he took in case it would work as a shortcut for Tracking class. What? He multitasked.

He was starting to get a little partied out, but once again, he felt it would be useful to stay on Ino's good side by showing up.

He grabbed a simple domino mask. No need to get too fancy with it.

Tara was glad her mental seesaw had landed on the side of going to the party. She still would never be the most social girl in the world, but the decorations alone were beautiful. She took a purple satin mask and tied it firmly around her head.

Elphaba had a simple domino mask tied to her face. It was red, which looked absolutely ridiculous on her. She tried to pretend it didn't though, and walked about like she knew what to do at a party.

She didn't know, really. She was normally sent to the back room or the kitchens for these sort of things, after a token appearance.

Rinoa brought a mask! And a tall surly guy, with his own mask! Standard party fare.

"Wow, this is beautiful," she breathed, squeezing Squall's hand.

Yes, she had had to drag him. And he hadn't wanted to come. So?

Food!

Oh, there is one heck of a selection of Japanese Wutaian Konohan food set out on the tables today, from takoyaki to okonomiyaki (but no natto), and a bunch of sweets as well, such as chocolate-covered bananas and dango. And... It's entirely possible that Zack decided to one-up the three cakes from his own birthday party, because he went right ahead and arranged for Ino to have four.

So far as he saw it, it kind of made up for the hamster ball, almost.

Food? Yeah, Hannibal would be at that table, partaking in some food since he'd been living on Ramen and macaroni and cheese for awhile now.

Karla was up for trying just about anything (though Hinata's reaction was enough to keep her leery of the non-existent natto), and was busily helping herself to a lot of the new foods.

The chocolate-covered bananas made her wish for more crepes.

The food looked too delicious to pass it up. Alex helped herself to a bit of whatever looked good (everything!) and decided to come back later for some sweets.

Dance!

They'd managed to rig up a decent set of speakers out here. A lot of what was being played was Ino's collection of J-Pop, K-Pop, and other kinds of music with the word 'pop' in them, but there was enough interspersed to give everyone something to dance to.

Even with one arm still in a sling, Leda gravitated to the dance floor and began to gracefully move about in time with the music.

Now if only she had someone to dance with.

Once Zack manages to con her into showing up for a random evening picnic. Oh yeah, he's so totally creative that way.

To be entirely honest, it hadn’t taken Zack much effort to get Ino to agree to something as adorably nonsensical as a picnic in the Preserve at night (though she’d been dubious until he’d told her where in the Preserve—no way had she wanted to go anywhere near where she’d disappeared the last time) and Ino had been in a fairly decent mood about it. As birthdays went, it’d be quiet, but that had its own certain appeal—

A thought which, stuttered and stumbled to a halt when she realized that a) those were lanterns making the night glow and b) could hear the music and then, well, what else could she do make a squeaky noise of pure glee and just stare?

And was that her music playing?

Inside Karla's present, Ino would find several different kinds of bulbs and seeds for various flowers, each of them neatly labeled: oleander, belladonna, datura, lily of the valley, monkshood, Rosary pea, rhododendrons, summer snowflake, and tanghin.

There was a small index card next to each plant, with growing and caring instructions. On the back of each card was further instructions, but they had nothing to do with plant care.

The birthday card attached simply read Every lady deserves a garden as lovely and dangerous as she is.
