A Clearing In The Preserve, Thursday Evening

This evening, there was a bit more activity going on in the preserve than the usual scampering and frolicking of the teal deer and the alots. Tonight, there were paper lanterns strung up through the branches and along the trees, there were tables set up in the clearing, and there was music. If it lacked a banner and balloons, they were hoping the glimmer of the lantern lights in the darkness made up for it.

Ino was turning seventeen, and there was only one thing to be done about it. Zack had sent out the e-mail yesterday, and he and Karla had taken care of the food and the cakes and the decorations, and, once Zack managed to get Ino to join them, they were going to celebrate!

It probably helped that Zack actually wanted to be Ino's boyfriend, and didn't, say, stomp out of the room in a huff every time the topic was raised.

"Then you can bring him out here," she agreed. "Why masks? Are you a fan of masquerades?"

"Honestly?" Ino laughed. "They're the one thing I'm not sure 'bout. The food, the lights, the music--all of that is totally based off my tastes. I think they just picked the masks 'cause they're neat."

"They are," Rinoa nodded. "Maybe they figured it went nicely with a party at dusk. Adds an air of mystery to it."

Plus, it had given Rinoa an excuse to go mask-shopping, so it was all kinds of good right there.

"It does," she agreed. "And it's a nice touch that they made sure to have masks for people who didn't have the time to find one too--makes it more fun for everyone."
