The Perk- Wednesday evening

Apparently when Jaina wasn't at Caritas, she was at the Perk. Maybe she had a thing for beverages. She'd just wanted to get out for a while, and even left her datapad at home (her phone and comlink were safely on her person, no one check her head for bumps) to just take some time and hang out for a while. Maybe even do something kind of like relaxing.

This would be easier if the first cup of hot chocolate she'd gotten hadn't gotten spilled when the barista bumped into her table, earning her a free replacement cup. Then the second cup had just been overfilled and spilled on the floor when she went to walk back to her table.

At that point Jaina had decided she wasn't meant for hot chocolate today, and was now sitting at the window table with a coffee. An iced coffee. When there was that much spilling going on today, you didn't want to risk getting scalded a third time.

"Thank you," she said, smiling happily. "We still need to get you in the StealthX, too."

"That's true," he nodded. "We'll make a whole week of it."

"A whole week," she repeated. "That sounds ambitious."

"You know," John clarified. "Other than classes and office hours and whatever else it is we do besides sit in bars and coffee shops."

"Train," Jaina said. That seemed to take up most of her day lately. "Otherwise... I think you've just covered everything." So sad.

"I don't train anymore," John told her. "Apparently I teach the classes." Which was, admittedly, hilarious.

A slow smile crossed Jaina's face. "Which classes? And what times do they meet?"

While the idea of Jaina in one of those classes was kind of wrong, there was no doubt she could pull it off, and it'd be so worth seeing him lead it.

"I will never let you in," John promised, giving her a look that said he was not amused by her attempt.

"But changing things up with a class might be good for me!" she protested, almost trying to look cute.

John leaned his elbows against the table and made a face at her. "I know you, and mocking isn't gonna happen."

She mirrored his position, narrowing her eyes. "I'll only mock if you're bad," she pointed out.

"You think I could be good at this?" John really needed to hire a Jessi replacement sooner than later.

"Hey, you might have a hidden talent," Jaina said. "Or maybe you'd be really good at it because I was there." And mocking could ensue.

"Oh no no no," John said, shaking his head at her and considering adding a finger to that if she didn't get it. "You are not participating in my newest form of torture."

"What if I promise not to mock?" Jaina asked. "Swear on everyone I hold near and dear to me."

"And who's included in that?" Because it mattered.

"My family, here and at home. Zekk. Rose and Lois. You, of course, which now that I think about it makes this deal a little weird." When you swore on people you were close to, and you were making the deal with one of them...

"So when you lie, then I die?" John didn't find this fair.

"I'm not going to lie. That's how you know I'm serious," Jaina tried, but sighed. "What's it gonna take to get me in one of those classes?"

"Hmm," John was thoughtful. "Co-teaching."

Damn if he wasn't like the one person to consistently make her speechless. "Wait, what? Co-teach the class?"

"That's right!" John looked quite pleased with himself. "You'd do good. Buuuut I'd suggest investing in spandex."

"I've never even seen one of these classes, aside from glimpses as I was passing by," Jaina pointed out. "And why spandex? What's wrong with my normal workout clothes?" Granted, she'd look good in the spandex.

"Well, since you've never seen one of the classes, you couldn't possibly understand until you try it," John replied.

Jaina pursed her lips, wondering if there was any way out of this that got her to see him in action. And that didn't involve a mind trick.

"Fine," she said finally. "I co-teach. But if I'm not allowed to mock you, you can't mock me, either."
