Marcus was aware there were extra people on the island, and that there'd been some sort of commotion up at the school.

Since it wasn't his problem, he didn't much care. Mostly, he was just glad all seemed to be normal in the junkyard today.

It made a nice change.

He wasn't about to be in a surprisingly okay mood for long. Kyle had stayed away. Not so today. He left Derek at the hotel with the hot shower, telling him he was going out for a few minutes. He'd tried Marcus' room first, but then came down to the junk yard to find him.

If he looked a little stressed, well, he was. "Marcus?" Kyle called, not wanting to walk in unannounced.

"Yeah?" He walked out from behind the corner of the shed, stopping when he saw Kyle because, yeah, he did look stressed.

One eyebrow went up, but it was the only indication of his surprise. "You can ask."

Marcus studied Kyle for a minute, before asking the obvious question. "There a reason I should?"

"My brother's here," Kyle admitted. "And he doesn't know you are."

Now that was interesting, given what he knew of where Kyle came from. Marcus weighed it up, then gave Kyle a quick nod. "I can do that."

"Really?" He was expecting something, maybe an argument or more pressure.

"Yeah." Can didn't mean would. It was weasel reasoning, but he'd spent more than a little time around lawyers; it was inevitable he'd pick up a thing or two.

Not if Marcus was careful he wouldn't. "Not if I'm lying low," he said, what might have almost been a smile lifting the corner of his mouth.
