Mystery Sign Theatre, Saturday Evening

It was probably a good idea if no one asked Mitchell how he'd even gotten this idea in the first place. The point was that after several weeks stuck in Bristol, watching new fledgeling vampires wake up for the first time, he needed a distraction, and this seemed like a really good idea. Considering the timing, and all that.

He was probably horribly wrong about that.

Still, by morning that day, the sign above the movie theatre read a cheery.

SHOWING TONIGHT:
The Petey Sci-Fi Talky Picture
Amuse Yrself Any Way
Apprpriate

Mitchell might still have been chock-full of humanity issues, but he was feeling pretty good about this one.

Jono really hadn't opted to bring anybody along, but he'd managed to catch wind somewhere during his mope that the local Cinema was going to be putting on the good stuff, and he'd managed to haul his pathetic arse out of bed in order to both get together all of the supplies that one needed for such a show, and also to come here in the first place.

Okay, maybe he looked like he was feeling a little bit of antici-

-pation. Even if he wasn't in costume. He really wasn't a corset kind of guy.

Confetti? Check. Playing cards? Check. Flashlight? Check. Toast? Double-check. He'd had to buy a loaf, and since he wasn't going to eat it, he'd just toasted the entire damn thing in case other people hadn't come prepared.

And shame on them if they hadn't.

It was probably a bad sign that the clerks at Holiday Grove had all but pulled a slutty maid costume over Quinn's head, topped it off with a frizzy brown wig, and then pushed her out the door and down the street.

It was likely a worse sign that they were cackling as they did it. And that they kept her clothes.

Dispirited, Quinn sulked down the street and, seeing some activity at the theater, decided to pop in. It beat walking around in a costume the day before Halloween -- and maybe there'd be some cute boy without his shirt on.

She took a bag of supplies and studied it, trying to figure out what the water pistol was for.

Quinn wasn't big on the participation.

At first.

Her too-cool-for-this attitude wasn't likely to last very long.

Not my fault either! I blame [livejournal.com profile] inneedofcoffee. And Ryan Murphy.

Always Ryan Murphy.

Rinoa arrived at the theater, reluctant knight in tow. It wasn't a date. (As he would tell you, loudly, were you to ask.) She had simply pointed out that she could use an escort, and he'd agreed.

She wasn't sure why the movie came with a bag of supplies, or why her bag had ... clothing, at the bottom? She glanced around, noticing Quinn's costume.

"Are we supposed to wear these?" she asked, frowning at hers. There didn't seem to be all that much to it, was all.

(bag accidentally having clothes was OK'd by [livejournal.com profile] chose_humanity TYVM ♥)

"No," Squall answered.

And if they were supposed to, he wasn't going to.

"It's just a movie. I'm not wearing a costume."

Or so he thought.

"Did you get one, too?" Rinoa asked, peering into his bag. "That other girl's wearing a costume. Look, it'll be fun! Like Halloween but a day early."

She found a bra and a torn slip, and there were shoes, but she wasn't sure where the rest of the costume was. Weird.

Squall looked in his bag, and looked up at Rinoa again. The only thing even remotely costume-like in there were a blond wig and a pair of gold underwear.

He pulled them out.

"This doesn't count as a 'costume'."

Excuse Rinoa. She would need a moment, here.

"Is that all there is, for yours?" she asked.

Hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooot.

Right, right. He'd never wear that. Okay. She was going to stop staring and be a normal person again.

She held up the pieces she'd found of hers -- bra, slip, shoes -- and shrugged.

"Mine's missing most of it, too," she said.

[identity profile] whateverknight.livejournal.com 2010-10-30 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
For a moment, Squall was speechless.

Of COURSE he wanted to see Rinoa wearing that, and if the price to pay was him wearing the little gold... thing, then it would be worth it.

Except going down that road led to madness, and this was NOT a date, and he was SO not going to let himself think anything of that sort.

"That's not a costume, either," he pointed out. He looked around desperately for someone, anyone else in the lobby who could tell them what the skimpy outfits were for.

"Hey," Rinoa said, popping into the seat next to Jono's for some much-needed explanations. "Why is this in my bag?"

She held up the bra and slip for Jono to investigate.

"Squall's has some kind of shiny underwear," she said. "I'd think they were costumes, but most of it's missing."
furnaceface: (Told you so)

//... You both got costumes? Really?// See Jono, see Jono look impressed. //It's practically tradition to dress up to this show, luv. Petey Sci-Fi is a cult classic, actually.//

Re: Lobby/Concessions

[personal profile] angelo_wings 2010-10-30 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"How come you're not wearing a costume?" Rinoa asked. "And ..."

She lowered her voice. "Is this really all there is to mine?"

She wasn't all that modest, surprisingly enough, but she didn't want to saunter into the theater wearing half of Queen So-and-So's Dress From Act 3 and have everyone think she was a crazy person.

Re: Lobby/Concessions

[personal profile] furnaceface 2010-10-30 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Jono raised an eyebrow, reminded himself that Rinoa wasn't from Earth, per se, and then shrugged and nodded a little.

//I'm not exactly th'golden underwear type,// he pointed out. //But yes, that is all there is to yers. One of th'main characters spends most of th'show in that, more or less.//

Lucky Rinoa!

Re: Lobby/Concessions

[personal profile] angelo_wings 2010-10-30 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
"Squall got that one," Rinoa shared happily. "The gold underwear? And a wig."

Please help her convince Squall to wear it? Pleeeeeeeease?

"Okay, then I'll put it on," she decided. "Isn't there another character you could be? There have to be other people, besides the half-naked two and the maid."

It was kind of a slutty maid costume, at that. Rinoa approved.

Re: Lobby/Concessions

[personal profile] furnaceface 2010-10-30 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
... Don't tempt Jono, Rinoa. He'd made a mad dash into town here and now if it meant being in costume.

//Th'butler, I suppose. Not as exciting as some of the other characters, really, but at least his chest's covered.//

Which probably said a great deal about the fine entertainment that they were about to take in, didn't it?
angelo_wings: ([ros] fun-loving)

Re: Lobby/Concessions

[personal profile] angelo_wings 2010-10-30 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Temptation was one of her specialties. Seriously.

"Is this movie about some kind of orgy?" she asked. Look, she didn't know. But if it was a rarity for the butler to be clothed, and considering what everyone else was (or wasn't) wearing ... it didn't seem like such a bad guess.

Anyway.

She straightened up with a decided nod. "Okay," she said. "You go get a butler costume, and I'll make Squall wear the shiny underwear."

Arm-twisting? Another specialty.
