Caritas: Friday Night

Jessica was busy with her laptop at the bar tonight. She was taking advantage of the Black Friday sales to buy up all kinds of R-rated DVDs her parents never let her watch when she lived at home.

She also found something she'd just have to get for Sookie for Christmas.

Bruce felt he owed it to Jessica to at least stop by and check in after the events of a couple weeks ago. He would have done it sooner, but he had a date last Friday.

Bruce Wayne: pure class.

"Jessica. How are you tonight?" he asked as he took a seat at the bar.

Jessica couldn't help but blush a little at how out of control her hormones had been two weeks ago. "Well, hi there, Bruce," she said. "I'm doin' good. How are you?"

"Not bad. I kind of appreciate the quiet around here over the past couple days," Bruce said. "It's not something you get too often."

"It's been kinda nice," Jessica agreed. "Especially after I had to go back home for a few days last week -- well, not my real home, Sookie's home, but it was almost the same. And I had to fight a werewolf." She wrinkled her nose in distaste.

"Since you're standing here now, I'm assuming you won?" Bruce asked.

"I kick his ass," Jessica grinned. "But then a really old vampire got his hands on me and that part wasn't as fun."

"I'm assuming that traditional lore holds true and older vampires are stronger?" Bruce asked.

Because he would ask that and in that way.

"Well, yeah, but I kinda found that out the hard way," Jessica complained. "My maker didn't really tell me much, so I've been findin' things out on my own."

"There are a couple libraries on the island. I'm sure they might some information that could be useful. You just have to be careful not to take any of it as gospel since who knows what differences there might be in different worlds..." Bruce said.

"Sookie told me there are other vampires in Fandom, but I ain't never met any of 'em yet," Jessica said. "I guess they're pretty different from me, too."

"The only one I know is... fairly different. She even finds ways to get out during the daytime," Bruce said. "I doubt that's very common."

"Daytime?" Jessica said, eyes wide. "Wow, I wish I could do that! Does she have really good sunscreen or somethin'?"

"She wears large hats. Carries umbrellas. Stays indoors most of the time from what I've noticed," Bruce said. "Her name's Maladicta. I'm sure she could give you a few tips."

"Oh, wait, I know her!" Jessica said. "I didn't know she was a vampire, though. I introduced her to Kahlua when she came in here."

"I think she assumes people can figure it out," Bruce said. "Otherwise you have to ask her about the giant hat she's wearing and you might get the right answer."

"I'm definitely gonna have to talk to her," Jessica said. "But I don't think a hat is gonna cut it for me."

"How about the umbrella?" Bruce joked.

"I might be willin' to try if you have some blood ready for me to drink to heal if I start burnin'," Jessica teased.

[Time for me to sleep. SP?]

"Would that actually help you immediately?" Bruce asked. He knew she was teasing, but it still gave a potentially interesting tidbit of information.

[Sure! But just as a warning, I'm likely to be super slow Saturday.

Annnnnnnd I thought I hit post last night. Yeah, you weren't the only one who needed sleep.]

"I think so," Jessica said. "I've never been hurt real bad since I've been a vampire, but I know we heal real fast normally, but if we're really hurt we need blood to do it."

Somewhere, older vampires were probably facepalming at Jessica's casual way of divulging anything about vampires.
