Yeah yeah, weird shit was happening. Clearly this was going to require a drink, then John would be ready to deal with...whatever it was.

[Lame post as I just arrived home, but I'm around!]

Jaina definitely felt off about something or other, but she couldn't tell exactly what. Experience told her she didn't so much want to stick to her apartment then, so taking a goblin-free walk followed by a stop at the bar sounded about right.

"Been a while since I've seen you here on a Sunday," she said, taking a seat.

"Been a while since I've been here on a Sunday," he answered, automatically getting her a coke.

He knew her so well. "Caritas just not that entertaining anymore?" she wondered.

"More like I've been elsewhere," John explained in that way he had of not actually giving up any information but smiling like he had. "You here to see me or for the drinks?"

She was tempted to ask, but at the same time she figured she probably didn't want to know the answer. "Actually... the drinks, due to the fact that I haven't seen you here on Sunday in a while. But you are a plus," she added with a smile.

"So you're saying I should've spiked that Coke," John teased. "I'll know better next round."

"No spiking my drink," Jaina said, going along with the teasing. Actually doing that on a day she had any weird feelings would be a Bad Thing in her book, but she didn't think he'd ever do that. "I'd have to frown at you, at the very least."

"Really, a frown?" Sometimes John missed that asshole Chuck.

"Unless you want me to beat you up for it or something," she said, sipping her drink.

"If I was spiking your drink, I'd hope I earned worse than a sad look," he told her. "Maybe not a full on beating, but something involving violence."

"I was playing. I assume by now that you wouldn't do that," Jaina shrugged. "Are you worried I wouldn't beat down anyone else who tried it, or just wanting to get hit if you did?" The way he phrased it really made her wonder.

"Sometimes I wonder about how you react to others," he told her.

"Like how?" she asked, needing some elaboration.

"Like if you're different with me." It was natural, John supposed, that she would be just by virtue of having been around him for so many years.

"Well, yeah," Jaina said, considering it. "You're going to get a different reaction than Tino, or some new person tending bar. For instance, if Tino or a new person tried to spike my drink knowing that that's bad to do, I'd get myself kicked out of the bar."

"The bar's a bitch with that spell," John commented. "Sometimes it'd be nice to see a nice fight."

"It's be nice to be able to get in one sometimes," she admitted, though it also brought back certain Dimitri memories. And because she was really curious, she asked, "Do you react to other people differently than you do to me?"

"Of course. You I've known forever. Everyone else gets the stinkeye initially." He was kidding.

Somehow she doubted the validity of the last part of that statement. It also made her wonder how serious he was about the rest of what he said. "I'm sure they do," she said dryly. "But the serious answer is...?"

John was going to pause to drink a little more while he thought up what his serious answer should be. "You know, it's like when you're meeting a new civilization for the first time. You're polite, you smile a lot, and you hope no one dies at the end of the day."

She nodded. "You do react differently to me. I'd never call you polite," she teased.

"And I'd never smile a lot," John added, raising his glass in salute before downing the contents.

"Serious faces or scowls all the time. I don't think I'd recognize you with a smile," she said. It felt good to tease. She didn't get to do it enough.

"So how are you doing?" she asked. She didn't see him as often, and last time had been all about her, so she wanted to ask.
