Mystery Sign Theatre, Thursday

By the time Thursday came around, Mitchell had heard of all that had gone on. He figured the kids could all use some escapism at the moment, so he spoke to a few of the lads inside and they all agreed. A Space Battles marathon was clearly in order for anyone wanting to take a moment away from the island, just for the day.

And lo, the sign above the entrance changed accordingly.

TODAY'S SHOWING:
SPACE BATTLES ORIGINAL TRILOGY
MARATHON
AFTERNOON & EVENING

There. That ought to be Mitchell's contribution to humanity for the day.

Kate wasn't really a fan of Space Battles, but she did realize she hadn't actually been inside the theater since Mitchell had taken up running it, so she and her takeaway cup of hot chocolate ducked in in the afternoon.

And the office was easy enough to find. "Hey," she greeted him from the door.
vanillajello: (Coffee means happiness.)

Kate snorted in amusement at that pleased reaction to her, but couldn't help smiling anyway. "Yeah. It was really tough, too."
vanillajello: (God's honest truth.)

"You'll have to paint the whole wall," she replied, taking an idle step actually in to the office. "The whole theater, maybe."
vanillajello: (Yeah sure.)

Re: Manager's Office

[personal profile] vanillajello 2010-12-16 02:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Kate shrugged a shoulder. "Well, don't look at me, I don't even know why you'd want to hide in the first place."
vanillajello: (Needs moar coffee.)

Well, that got her easy smirk to turn into making a face as she plopped herself down into a chair that she'd probably end up claiming as hers for forever, like she'd done with one in his previous office.

"No," she said, after a sip of hot chocolate. "I left for Kansas on Monday and got back Sunday morning."
vanillajello: (Try again maybe I'll buy it.)

"Mostly because I ran away at the first sign of trouble," Kate said, a little on the dry side. "Really didn't want to deal with any island shit."

Which was a nice way of saying she'd had a near panic attack.
vanillajello: (Idle talk.)

Re: Manager's Office

"Eh, it was okay, I guess," she said with a shrug. "Went looking at some wedding gowns with my aunt. Totally pointless, though, since we don't even know what kind of a whale she'll be once it's time for the actual wedding."
vanillajello: (Blah blah blah.)

Re: Manager's Office

[personal profile] vanillajello 2010-12-16 03:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"March, I think," Kate replied, shrugging again. She just wasn't really feeling the whole wedding thing. "She's hoping it'll be all... spring-like by then, so she can have it in our backyard or something."
vanillajello: (Yeah sure.)

[personal profile] vanillajello 2010-12-16 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Maybe that'll at least take attention away from how totally preggers she'll be?" she suggested brightly. "Not that people won't still talk."
vanillajello: (Talking to T.)

Re: Manager's Office

[personal profile] vanillajello 2010-12-16 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Kate couldn't help snickering. Mostly because she wasn't a very nice person.

"Ohhh no, that's not why she's getting married," she said, leaning forward in her chair. "She got pregnant after they got engaged. And the fiancé? Is not the father."
vanillajello: (That vaguely excited look.)

Re: Manager's Office

[personal profile] vanillajello 2010-12-16 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah," Kate nodded, way too happy to be gossiping about this. "And it's really bad too. I mean, get this: the fiancé is this environmental lawyer - tall, dark and handsome, the whole nine yards. And then the father of the poor kid is this short chubby guy who works with my dad at his landscaping firm."
vanillajello: (Thinkyface.)

Re: Manager's Office

[personal profile] vanillajello 2010-12-16 04:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"I just think she's desperate," Kate shrugged. "With a tendency to shoot herself in the foot."

Oh, how she'd fail to make a connection between those words and something that was going to happen later in the day.
vanillajello: (God's honest truth.)

Re: Manager's Office

"Because no one wants reality shows about people from Kansas," Kate replied easily. "And even if they did, Charmaine is my mom's sister."

Guess which one would have an easier time getting their own show.
vanillajello: (Not really.)

Re: Manager's Office

[personal profile] vanillajello 2010-12-16 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
"Nah, I think it'd be a trashy reality show," she mused, shaking her head. "Y'know, exactly the kind I'd watch if it wasn't my life."
vanillajello: (You say funny things.)

Re: Manager's Office

[personal profile] vanillajello 2010-12-16 04:57 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'd rather not."

Now, Kate, don't pretend you have limits when you don't.
vanillajello: (You're funny and sadly wrong.)

Re: Manager's Office

[personal profile] vanillajello 2010-12-16 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Kate laughed, trying to look affronted. "What? I have limits!"
vanillajello: (Try again maybe I'll buy it.)

[personal profile] vanillajello 2010-12-16 05:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well, you brought the Kardashians up first," she retorted. "So it's not like you have room to talk."
vanillajello: (Yeah sure.)

Kate snorted. "You watch."

Naptime?

But I'm of the opinion any time is a good time for naptime.

Ha. No, I'm not feeling very nappy, but I don't think I'm going to school today - threatening reports of a snowstorm and all. So I might go for a light doze, instead. ;)

We have the same weather -- we're supposed to get a dazzling 1 to 3 inches.

Hush, it's the south. That totally counts as a blizzard.

It makes me grumbly.

Re: OOC

Oh, I have no doubt we'll wind up with something like that, too - it's more the fact that it's going to get insanely cold right after, leading to slippery streets and rails and, well, let me put it this way, National Railways was forced to discontinue their 'we're ready for winter!' campaign last week to avoid making a fool of themselves.

Ahem.

Ah. Luckily our trains are usually okay with this much snow. Roads, on the other hand ... well, at least they aren't out of money for salt yet?

Driving home tonight will be funnest ever.

Re: OOC

[personal profile] endsthegame 2010-12-16 02:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, yeah, this is my Catch-22 if I want to go to school tonight: brave the slippery roads that have already seen a whole bunch of accidents the past few weeks, or take the train and hope to god a single fleck of snow on the rails won't ruin the entire system.

Amusingly enough, the National Railways site is already lagging hard under all the traffic.
