Jane had intended to stop by at the local general store to pick up just a few things, and she wound up with far more than she bargained for it.

It all started with the fact that there was a panda in the cheese aisle. Such a thing was undeniably intriguing and so Jane quite forgot about her grocery shopping and had to ask the man sweeping the floor about the bear. He answered her with a bit of a sigh, and he explained about the cheese and the owner of the shop who seemed to care to do nothing about it, and Jane wound up following the poor shopclerk around with her notebook open, her pencil ready, and filled with questions about the habitat and habits of this intriguing cheese panda. Eventually, the man (Apu was his name, Jane had gathered) must have realized he wasn't getting rid of Jane any time soon, and started to pass along tasks to her, which she happily went about, so long as she could continue to ask him questions. And, eventually, she found herself behind the counter, cheerfully ringing up customers in between jotting notes.

And really, Apu thought the best thing that happened that day was Shunsui not coming in to open the place, because he preferred Jane's company far more, even if she didn't seem to ever shut up.

If she ever stops talking herself. Apparently, she's helping Apu out today. And the greatest part is that she'll probably leave without her groceries, too.

Shunsui did eventually come into the shop; he wasn't that hopeless, and, besides, he needed some more booze for his supply in the bachelor pad.

He was more than pleasantly surprised to be able to bite back the random rant he was going to unleash on Apu-san because there was a pretty woman behind the counter instead.

Now he could use surprises like this more often.

"...well, hello ♥," he said, tilting his hat in greeting.

"Oh, hello!" Jane beamed up from where she was counting out pennies as Apu had asked. "Mr. Nahasapeemapetilon will be with you in just a moment if you're looking for something in particular; he's just restocking soup cans at the moment."

A bit of confusion flashed across Shunsui's face at the odd words coming out of the pretty woman's pretty mouth.

"...Who?"

"Mr. Nahasapeemapetilon," Jane repeated with a small smile. "The gentleman who keeps the store running. Oh, there he is!"

Jane waved as Apu, having heard Shunsui's voice, peeked around one of the aisle. "Hello, Mr. Nahasapeemapetilon! You can keep stocking if you'd like; I'll help the customer. I know you have so much to do, what with your boss not bothering to help you with any of this."

"That's your name?" Shunsui turned to Apu with a little bit of surprise, and Apu, as usual, just shook his head and rolled his eyes.

"I'm that boss," Shunsui then informed the young woman and put his smile back on, "but, I assure you, his claims are far from true, my dear ♥. You can't listen to a word that man says ♥."

"And so it's not true that you should have been in earlier to help him?" asked Jane with a little bit of a smirk on her face.

"Er..."

Oh, she was one of those clever ones. This...did not bode well for Shunsui. He always had a weakness for the clever ones, but at least she didn't also wear glasses.

"Of course not ♥!" Quickly, he turned on his smile. "After all, you were here helping him, weren't you ♥? Such a kind thing to do ♥! And the store looks wonderful ♥! You've a knack for this, my dear...?"

"Miss Porter," she offered in response to the inquiring lift in his voice. "Miss Jane Porter. And there really isn't that much to it, really..."

Ah, nothing quite as sweet as highjacking your own businesses.

The cheese panda still makes me giggle every time he shows up *loves*

HE IS NOW AN INSTITUTION.
