Tonight, Jake was amusing himself by doing shots.

But not just shots of any old thing. He'd dragged out all the various kinds of fruity liqueurs and was doing a rainbow of shots.

Caritas was open, and in technicolour!

Tim Finnegan lived in Walkin Street,
A gentle Irishman mighty odd
He had a brogue both rich and sweet,
An' to rise in the world he carried a hod

but for the love for the liquor poor Tim was born

he'd a drop of the craythur every morn

One morning Tim got rather full,
his head felt heavy which made him shake
Fell from a ladder and he broke his skull, and
they carried him home his corpse to wake
Rolled him up in a nice clean sheet,
and laid him out upon the bed
A bottle of whiskey at his feet
and a barrel of porter at his head

His friends assembled at the wake,
and Widow Finnegan called for lunch
First she brought in tay and cake,
then pipes, tobacco and whiskey punch
Biddy O'Brien began to cry,
"Such a nice clean corpse, did you ever see,
Tim, auvreem! O, why did you die?",
"Will ye hould your gob?" said Paddy McGee

Then Maggie O'Connor took up the cry,
"O Biddy" says she "you're wrong, I'm sure"
Biddy gave her a belt in the gob
and sent her sprawling on the floor
Then the war did soon engage,
t'was woman to woman and man to man
Shillelagh law was all the rage
and a row and a ruction soon began

Mickey Maloney ducked his head
when a bucket of whiskey flew at him
It missed, and falling on the bed,
the liquor scattered over Tim
Now the spirits new life gave the corpse, my joy!
Tim jumped like a Trojan from the bed
Cryin will ye walup each girl and boy,
t'underin' Jaysus, do ye think I'm dead?"

omfgggggg two days until S2.

Kūkaku had class in the morning, so of course she was heading to the bar tonight.

"Hook me up with something cheap but good," she said, leaning her arm on the counter.

She drank what she was, essentially.

Babysitter night!

Cally wandered up to the bar and sat down.

She really, really needed to get some friends in town. This was getting ridiculous for her.

"Uh, hey," she said. "I'll take a virgin margarita, if you please?"

"Hey, who're you calling cheap?" Cally joked, leaning over from her own stool.

"Also, I don't do hook ups. Waaaay too many of those in my past."

Hellos were for other people.

Yes, Kūkaku realized that was probably supposed to be a joke or an attempt to be clever and try to turn that into an ironic hook up line, but there was no way she was buying it.

"Uh-huh," she said, taking a moment to eye the other chick. "I'll bet. One STD, and you try to swear those things off fer life."

Jaina was having one of those days where she was going to sound like she was everywhere on radio, and people were just going to have to deal with that. Taking one look at the shots, she grinned and said, "Someone's having fun."

"Replaced STD with baby, and you've got it in one," Cally said. "Not that I'm saying I'm not happy to have him. Just being honest."

She thankfully did not stick out a hand for a shake and just gave a little wave. "Cally... just Cally. Nice to meet you."

"Kūkaku Shiba," she offered back, with a lift of her chin, and sacrificing to the Western way of saying it for simplicity's sake. "I think I'd rather have the STD."

After all, then she could pass it on to Sherlock...call it biological warfare.

"Fair enough," Cally said. "I guess it's less of a cramp on your social life, that's for sure."

She fiddled with her drink and wondered how to start a conversation and not end up making it about evil robots.

"So, come here often? And I promise, not a pick-up line."

That, and the things Kūkaku kept around her house weren't exactly toddler safe.

Which may have explained a lot about her little brother.

"Good," she said, "'cause it'd be a really shitty one. And every so often. Might be making a habit of it on Monday nights, because I teach class in the morning."

Cally chuckled. "The school kids are always a handful, right?" she said. "I at least know that from experience. Not teaching, though. From the other end."

"One of these days yer gonna come in and ask for French rum or the like and I'll keel right over from shock," Jake remarked, pouring her a pint of Rickard's.

A handful. Har har.

"Yer a student here?"

"I bet that stuff tastes like shit," Kūkaku mused, shaking her head. "A good sake, maybe, but that's only for special occasions and bribes."

"Why do so many people in this town come to a pub and then not order a real drink?"

Okay, by 'so many', he really meant Jaina (most of the time) and now Cally. But still! it was weird.

"I was bored," he shrugged. "Had to kick things up a notch, y'know?"

"Do you even know what all those are?" she asked. "Or do you not care as long as it's the right color?"

"Was," Cally said. "...I've gotten that twice now. Do I really look that young?"

She didn't feel that young any more, that was for certain.

Kūkaku smirked a little at that. "A lot of people here look that young to me," she said. "I try not to make any assumptions on looks anyway."

"Some of us have kids to take care of when they get home," Cally said. "So, that's my excuse. I take no responsibility for anyone else's drinking habits, though. Sorry?"

"I think they're all fruit?" Jake said, lining them up nicely before picking up the red one and downing it. "...Well, that one was a sour fruit thing."
