Caritas- Saturday

When Jaina came in to work today, she found Tino sitting in the back room, drinking straight from one of the bottles he'd taken from behind the bar. "That kinda day?" she guessed.

He just glared, so Jaina went back to the bar, figuring it'd be a more fun work shift if she just left him there.

"Trauma's a good way to put it," Angua agreed, sipping her Not Coors Lite. "I mean, it's not at all a good sign when you think back, and wonder, 'why couldn't he have turned into a teenage girl like Vimes?'"

She did her best not to smirk, she really did. "If that ever happens again while I'm here, I hope so hard that I stay myself. Just so I can say things like that."

"It seems almost random who's affected and who's not," Angua said with a slight shrug, a shrug far more casual than for the fact that she'd actually tried to figure this out quite a lot. "So, yeah, just keep your fingers crossed that at least, next time, it's a little less embarrassing than the last..."

Although so help her, it was getting hard to top some of this.

Jaina paused, thinking back. "The last time that happened to me, I was a vegan slut who didn't hook up with anyone," she said, and considering she'd still been attached at the time, that was good. "The time before that I was a superhero who slipped on a puddle of water that was my brother. I'd say it got less embarrassing for me."

Angua's head tilted slightly, feeling like she was missing some important part of womanhood by not quite understanding what she was about to ask. "How do you manage to be a slut without actually hooking up with someone?" she wondere

"I'm not sure, but I'm grateful for it," Jaina admitted. "Instead I just tried to get people not to eat meat. It was a weird weekend."

"I tend to always be myself, but just...differently sized or singing and dancing or doing....other things that aren't quite me," Angua said with a shrug, suggesting it could be much worse, but still not knowing whether or not you slept with your boss was about as bad as it got in her book.

"You sang and danced?" Jaina asked with raised eyebrows. She hated feeling like she'd missed something.

"During an arrest, no less," Angua offered. "With the troopers and a quick change into a swishy blue dress, even."

Jaina stared. "Tell me this was somewhere with surveillance cameras."

"Sorry," Angua smiled pleasantly. "It was on the beach."

She sighed in exaggerated disappointment. "I never get to see anyone else embarrass themselves anymore," she said.

"I find that statement difficult to believe from someone who works at a bar," Angua observed.

"People are surprisingly unembarrassing in front of me here," she told her. "Even the guy who jumped over Tino on a skateboard last week didn't fall."

"People clearly aren't drinking enough," Angua observed. "Someone jumped over Tino on a skateboard? Think he'd come over to the station and do that with Ralph?"

"Yes. Yes, I do," Jaina said, pointing down at Lucas. "He's the one who did it."

Angua leaned forward a little to follow the direction of Jaina's point.

"On second thought," she said, "that's a terrible idea. Ralph will probably just think of it as a new source of paperwork."

"Especially if he misses and the clinic's involved," Jaina agreed.

"What possessed him to skateboard over Tino in the first place?" Angua asked, although she pretty much could guess the answer.

"Red Bull and vodka ups his drunkenness and balls stats, or something," Jaina replied. "No, I don't understand it."

"I think," Angua noted, "we can still get the general gist."

And it was a word spelled Testosterone....

"Yeah. And once I got the general gist, it fell into the category of things I'd never fully get anyway, and I'm completely fine with that," she admitted. And she'd shared her brain with a guy for a year, and could still say that.
