Luke's Diner, January 17 (Monday)
Lacey still didn't know why exactly the squirrels had decided to herd her into the radio booth yesterday to make that announcement, but she was still firmly convinced that this meant they had some kind of weird platonic wee squirrelly crush on her.
She thought it was sweet, and in her strange overcompensating way had decided to make them a rum and nut cake as thanks. Of course, it was an interesting contrast to today's specials, chosen in light of the surprisingly warm weather, but that was all right; this cake wasn't meant for human consumption.
. . . which didn't mean she wasn't using human food-grade ingredients. Smart squirrels and all.
Luke's is open, and summery, and kind of nutty. Some might point out that on Mondays, that last statement is a given if you interpret it the right way . . .
[OOC: Also OCD-freeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, as I flee to work now.]

She snickered. "Get it? Crime?"
It was amazing nobody was throwing tomatoes at her from the kitchen.

For the oldest cop joke in the book, anyway.

Also, Oscar Leroy had booed her half the time when he was within earshot.
"Planning on getting out there for that luau later?"

She supposed she could explain that it was a bad time for her, but she knew exactly how Lacey would interpret that.
"The weather change is playing hell on my sinuses."
Which was true. In addition to the full moon coming up, this was having her want to chug a bottle of aspirin and just sleep for a week, too.

Now that she kept a good stock on hand for John and all. Ahem.

As the large wicker tea basket she pulled out onto the counter could attest. Sheesh. Overcompensating much, Lacey?

"Oh, gosh, sorry! Allergies?" she guessed, wildly. "Black tea's just as good. Nice little bit of lemon for that citrusy zing, clear those sinuses right up!"

Cleared up the sinuses a bit too well, really.
"Bad experiences with peppermint oil. Say what you will about the bad guys in Ankh-Morpork, but they certainly don't lack in creativity."
