Luke's Diner, January 18 (Tuesday)

Today was typically Sookie's day, but in between the blizzard and Sookie leaving her a message about not making it in today, Lacey took it up on herself to make sure the diner was at least open for anyone who might be stuck out in the cold. So it was simple fare on the specials board today: lots of hot soups, stew of both the meat and veggie varieties, hot chocolate, tea, and coffee. Just the sort of stuff that'd warm you right up, and didn't require any special market runs.

Look, Lacey was from snowier parts of Canada, but she wasn't that foolish that she'd go blundering out into this weather more often than absolutely necessary.

[OOC: Sookie's absence modded with permission, and mod your service today, please! This is mostly up for the benefit of Shunsui's class. ;)]

And Vimes, on the other hand, was from Ankh-Morpork were snow like this was about as likely as gold raining down from the sky. A dreary sort of slush was more accurate to describe a nice Morporkian winter.

In recent memory at least.

But he made his way through everything for this damned class. And cocoa. Mostly the cocoa to be honest.

Jake held open the door for Quinn. His hair and shoulders were covered in snow, but it was melting fast and he looked unbothered by the whole blizzard going on.

"Oh god, that smells good," he said with a conviction that only starved teenage werewolves could muster.

"I am having a vat of hot chocolate,"Quinn said with conviction of her own. "And pancakes. And eating really slowly so I can stay here a long time."

"As long as you don't eat all the pancakes, I'm good with that," Jake snorted, letting the door fall shut behind him. He shook his head for a moment, getting the worst of the snow off.

"You want a seat with a snow view?"

Because there many other views on offer right now.

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 08:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"No," Quinn said dryly as she moved to pick out a table. "I think I'll take a snow view. And I don't think I can eat all of their pancakes."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hey, you never know around here. I've seen the way Karla eats. I think she might be able to put me to shame," Jake pointed out, sliding into the seat opposite her.

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"If I ate that way," Quinn volunteered, "I'd look like an elephant in about two days. Some of us just aren't lucky."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 08:22 pm (UTC)(link)
"I think you'd be sick before that," Jake replied, shaking his head. "Anyway, how's things been while I was pretending to be a stuffed toy? Did you go home for the holidays?"

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
"For about a week," Quinn confirmed, reaching for a menu. "It got boring, so I came back before the New year. How about you?"

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"No, I got stuck being a stuffed wolf," he rolled his eyes and wondered if he even needed to check the menu. Those pancakes sounded good. "I'm just glad I'm animated again. I bet that was more boring."

When he wasn't getting dropped in any snow or buried in the sand. Thanks, Rosalind.

"Stupid question," Quinn admitted. "We talked about that before. How are your classes?"

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 08:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"Okay, Jaina's class is cool but Blackadder is just weird and kind of creepy," he frowned. "I'm not sure how to explain it, maybe it's the time thing. I guess I can't complain since he let me skip class to get him coffee."

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 08:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Lucky," Quinn decided. "I don't hate any of mine. The acting class is kind of fun in a meathead way. And I took ethics. It's not as bad as people said it was."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's not. I like professor Skywalker, he actually knows what he's talking about and he wants to help," Jake said instantly, actually sounding fond. "So are you actually thinking of acting or is it just for fun? And can I get your autograph now so I can sell it and be rich later?"

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Quinn smirked. "I like attention," she said. "I don't really see myself as an actress, but it's a semi-normal arts credit that'll help me get into college. I couldn't pass it up. But I'd be happy to sign your napkin if you want."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Jake snorted, but he unrolled the utensils from his napkin and slid it across the table.

"You never know," he teased. "So do you know what you're going to do in college?"

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Quinn groped for a pen in her pocket and signed Quinn Fabray with a flourish. "Business," she said. "I think I'd like to get an MBA and then go run the world somewhere. How about you?"

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"It's not really my thing," he said, amusement over how much of a pro she was at the signing of a napkin winning out on any wistfulness over what came next.

"I might see about getting an apprenticeship at a garage. So what world were you thinking of overtaking? Any I know?"

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"There's good money in being a mechanic," Quinn said, not seeming overly bothered about it either way. It wasn't like Jake was the only guy she knew who wasn't going to college. "And is it okay if I wait for graduation, and then see what my choice of worlds is? I don't want to pick it out too far in advance."

[identity profile] need-no-moon.livejournal.com 2011-01-18 09:41 pm (UTC)(link)
"That's fine, and you never know. Someone from this cool world with free food and cars for all could show up," he pointed out. "Are you keeping a top three?"

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
"I dunno," Quinn said, gesturing the waiter over so they could order. "Home's nice. I don't think I'd be happy being someplace too far off from where I grew up -- not a tiny town, but, y'know. Normal."

Bruce made his way through the snow easily enough. Then he took over a booth, ordered a coffee, and sat quietly to make sure his class-mandated protest of nothing in particular was properly peaceful.

This was hardly the sort of thing Angua was used to dealing with when it came to civil disobedience, but it was something to do and, playing the part so that she didn't have to talk to Kyōraku, she sidled up to one of the booths and asked the student, as asked, "And what's all the trouble here, then?"

She tried not to sigh. Really. But it just sort of happened, anyway.

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
"No trouble, officer," Bruce said. "Just enjoying some coffee."

He had taken two sips of it so far. He was savoring it.

[identity profile] colourfulscents.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
"Just some coffee?" asked Angua, arching an eyebrow, which she felt was a decent touch.

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
"Would you like some too, officer?" Bruce asked. "It's on me."

Yes, he was recruiting for the causeless cause.

[identity profile] colourfulscents.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
"I'd like," Angua said, "for these seats to be available for other patrons on this very busy business day..."

Gods, this was stupid. No one throwing scones or anything. Maybe she could get Ralph to get to that...

[identity profile] willbethenight.livejournal.com 2011-01-19 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
"I'm a paying customer and it's cold outside," Bruce said. "I think that entitles me to enjoy my coffee inside the restaurant."
