Mystery Sign Theatre, Wednesday

Another week, another day at work for Kate. It hadn't gotten old yet, and she liked having somewhere to go, especially with the random moods she was having. Yesterday had been a little taxing and a little weird and although she'd gotten rid of some of the effects of that with a long phonecall with Zach last night, she'd still woken up a little restless this morning.

Today's movie wasn't about romantic relationships and she was happy about that, at least.

TODAY'S SHOWING:
Dig!

Mystery Sign Theatre 3000 was open.

The manager was there, though he wouldn't be there all day, either. He had a portalocity appointment for that day, and a not-quite-decided-upon plan to swing by a certain lady doctor sometime this weekend.

For now, though, he had his feet propped up on the desk, and was sipping his coffee.

"I could pretend to phone someone," Mitchell offered, "Or tend to our non-existent angry customers, but..." He made a vague gesture with his hand, which was useful, because he could use it to pull out a packet of cigarettes on the downswing.

Mitchell helpfully lit a cigarette to illustrate that idea. He was still possibly the world's worst role model, thank you.

"I could requisition more popcorn," he mused, grinning. "How are you doing up front?"

"At least that might lead to a small bonus on your paycheck?" Mitchell offered, taking a drag off his cigarette. "Cash for pals."

"I guess I don't really want to invest in getting you one of those purple furry coats," he said, thoughtfully.
chosehumanity: (mitchell: smoking yeah?)

"I'm not getting you any weapons," Mitchell said, gesturing at her with his cigarette. "That's just an accident waiting to happen."
chosehumanity: (mitchell: smoking neck)

Mitchell blinked. "Since when are you walking around with one of those, miss Lethality?"

"Since the whole thing with that twat of an ex of yours?" he asked, after thinking about it for a minute.

"...No, the other one? You know..."

Mitchell was trying not to say the word 'vampire', here.

There was a pause.

"...Well, I suppose that means I know far more about your sex life than I ever wanted to," Mitchell said, pulling a face. "God."
chosehumanity: (george-mitchell: this is consternation)

Mitchell's face-pulling kept up for another second or two (no offense, Kate) before he could even think about responding.

"I broke his kneecaps," he offered.
chosehumanity: (mitchell: evasive)

"No, I get it," Mitchell said, taking a quick pull off his cigarette, so he could recollect his thoughts. "It gets-- complicated. With vampires, life and death... Not that anyone needs to tell you that."
chosehumanity: (mitchell: cooler'n you)

chosehumanity: (mitchell: darkly determined)

Pointing out that Herrick used to say that vampires were just human beings freed of their conscience... was probably not a good idea, Mitchell reflected.

"If it helps," he said, trying to recover, "They aren't themselves. Not... at first. It's too easy to lose yourself."
chosehumanity: (mitchell: quiet stark)

"Maybe," Mitchell said, but he sounded... skeptical. "Did you know there were vampires in his world?"

"None taken," Mitchell said, waving it off. "It'd give Herrick's crackpot theories about us being part of nature some credence."
chosehumanity: (mitchell: innocent)

Thanks for the inappropriate joke, Mitchell.

"They'd have to catch me, first." He relaxed in his chair. A little.
