Turtle & Canary; Saturday [ 02/05 ].

One good thing about working in a shop that sold almost everything, Jane realized, is that she had quite a selection to consider as far as means of self-defense went. The encounter the other day had her thinking that, really, it was about time she considered such things. Finding a nice stake was surprisingly easy and, as she stood there giving it a few stabs and swishes and wielding it with threatening shakes a try, she felt it wasn't too terribly graceful, and keeping it somewhere convenient was a little unwieldy.

When Mr. Nahasapeemapetilon inquired about her activities, she explained to him as best she could about her realization that, being a young single woman in a foreign country, there were a few considerations to make. He understood completely and even offered to help introduce her to a few other methods of defense for the independent young lady, such as mace.

Which Mr. Nahasapeemapetilon was going to regret the moment Jane accidentally sprayed it right into his face.

"Oh my goodness! Mr. Nahasapeemapetilon! Mr. Nahasapeemapetilon! Are you alright? Oh, dear, does it hurt? Oh, it must hurt, with those awful screams, here, let me get you some water and maybe a towel and, oh, well, at least we know it's effective?"

Today's Squishy flavours: Pepper Water, Searing Pain, Red

Henry had to blink a few times against the interesting odor lingering in the air as he came into the shop, though he was distracted from asking about it by the dark-haired two-year-old clinging to his back. Luckily, the scent of the spray didn't seem to bother Alba.

"Morning," he said, shifting his daughter around to his hip. "Do you have any princess clothes, about this size? Somebody's in a dress-up stage."

Which, of course, he'd learned about after Clare portalled in to dropped Alba off for the weekend.

Alba chewed on a finger, looking interested in the answer.

Alba nodded, looking very very serious (as was required, when princess clothes were being discussed). "We use words," her father reminded her, and she managed a "yeth."

"I'm so glad you have them," he continued, as he prepared to follow Jane to wherever the clothes might be. "I'm not sure there's a toy store on the island, and getting to the mainland is such a headache."

"I think our occasion today is lunch at the diner and then maybe some time on the playground," Henry said, as he let Alba down so she could walk before his back gave out. "Perhaps something blue and silky for that, do you think?"

Hey, at least she'd get to be old.

"We've been talking about princesses a lot," Henry explained, as Alba scampered off to touch (maul, really) the dresses. "She's just out for the weekend, so I'm not set up for it. I'm Henry and her name is Alba."

"Princess Alba," came the correction.

"King of a very small domain," Henry said, grinning easily before he was distracted. "... Alba, honey, ask me if you need to get a dress down."

Her grabbing was scattering very small tiaras. He grimaced a bit as he went to put them back, while Alba wiggled impatiently.
