The Perk, Saturday Morning

Sometime after Emma had gotten up, she'd gone off to the Perk. Today was clearly going to be a day that required caffeine, given the mental turmoil that was going on today.

Mocha. Glorious glorious mocha. Come to Auntie Emma.

[OOC: Open Perk is Open!]

Beren was certain his parents would have to be here. Or at least his mother. He pushed open the door and run inside, his face instantly falling as none of the people there seemed familiar.

Still, there was an adult and the boy approached her cautiously. "My lady?" he asked, his eyes fixed on the cup of coffee Emma was holding.

Melody figured she should probably go and find her parents...and then get in trouble? No, thank you! So she was going to explore, which meant going into shops and bothering random people inside of them, obviously. It was an adventure.

"Hey," she sidled up to Emma's table with absolutely no reservations, "is that coffee? It smells like coffee. I'll bet it's coffee. I'm not supposed to have coffee because it makes me too hyper, but I don't think it really tastes good anyway, so why do you drink coffee if it doesn't really taste good? I'm Melody, by the way."

And then she realized that giving her name might have been a bad idea because then, if the lady knew who she was, she could get in trouble again.

"You don't know who I am, do you?"

"Hi Mom," Annika said, clambering onto the stool at Emma's table. She knew this wasn't her mom, exactly, but she'd been in Fandom before -- she figured Emma would remember her. "Can you get me a coffee too, please? And where's Dad? Is he with that Felix boy?"

Brooker may have been a child, but he was Askani first and foremost. This meant he was much more cautious in approaching someone he knew to nominally be part of his clan.

By marriage only.

Which meant that a surprisingly well armed child was going to dash into the perk and try to loom at Emma. "Where am I?" he demanded.

Leda was in a lousy mood this morning. And not just because of the headache, but that was part of it.

It was the kind of mood that only coffee, and lots of it, could cure.

Just the smell was doing her good really.

Jenny was on a quest. A quest for cigarettes and caffeine, not necessarily in that order, and thank God even the stupidest barista could still boil water and stick a tea bag in it, because she was not quite desperate enough to order coffee just yet. She could wait for the tea to steep.

James followed the activity on his mother's debit card--his family paid for things here? That was weird--to a coffee shop, which seemed like a weird place to find his mother, but he guessed they sold tea in coffee shops, too. His dad always bought him milk and cookies at Starbucks. And...there she was. She looked younger than in the pictures, didn't she? Everyone said she'd looked the same since she was nineteen, but she looked...younger. Of course, he guessed that made sense if she was in school, and now he'd been staring too long. Great.

There was a child staring at her. Why was there a child staring at her? "What?" Jenny asked harshly, hoping it would scurry away.

[identity profile] weetinysparks.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
"Mom," James said, and flung himself at her waist.

Jenny threw her arms up to avoid spilling her tea all over the child when he launched himself at her, and stared down at him disbelievingly. "But it's not even prom yet!" she protested.

Then the boy's pronunciation registered. "Oh, fuck me," she said, completely and totally not caring that there were certain words most people agreed you shouldn't use around a child. "You're bloody American, aren't you?"

[identity profile] weetinysparks.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"You're exactly like everyone said you would be!" James sniffed against her shirt.

"But I always drink coffee," Beren protested with as much indignation as a five year old could muster. "Mother says I have to drink lots if I want to grow up and be a ranger. She drinks a whole lot and she's strong and I shall be too. Have you seen her?"

Was he crying? Jenny couldn't be having with this. "There, there," she said awkwardly, patting the boy's shoulder in a mechanical sort of 'comforting the witness' way. "There, there. Er. Son. What's your name again?"

Massive eyeroll, coming in for landing, as Melody groaned and figured that she had terrible luck that the person she decided to talk to was one of these kinds of people. She sucked in a breath, pulling herself up and to go about things properly as asked.

"Princess Melody, of Unnamed Seaside Kingdom," she answered, dipping into a curtsy. "Ma'am."

"James," James reported. "James Oliver Hawksmoor-Sparks." He figured he was in an alternate universe, since his mother was, you know, alive and all, but he had to check: "You're not evil, are you?"
ashockingbitch: (HM - oh bugger)

[personal profile] ashockingbitch 2011-02-12 06:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"Strictly chaotic good," Jenny assured him, amused by the way his slim shoulders relaxed when he heard that. And then the surname registered. "Oh bloody hell no I did not have sex with Jack sodding Hawksmoor!" She had seen what he was packing, and while she hadn't thrown up (unlike some people), even her creatively dirty mind hadn't been able to figure out how that would work. She had no idea what the aliens had hoped to accomplish there.

"You were really drunk," James told her. "Really, really drunk."

His middle name, he had always been told, was because his mother called him 'the olive in the martini.'

Elizabeth teleported to the Perk to get coffee for George (http://furnaceface.livejournal.com/10834.html?thread=557650#t557650). But she had to pause in her mission when she saw Emma. "AUNTIE EMMA AUNTIE EMMA!" she said, running over and holding her arms up for a hug.
ashockingbitch: (bugger me gently)

[personal profile] ashockingbitch 2011-02-12 06:42 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh," Jenny said. "Well, yes, that would make sense," she admitted, however begrudgingly.

Now what the hell was she supposed to do with a child? "Are you hungry, James? Have you had breakfast?"

[identity profile] thefuturesucks.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Brooker rolled his eyes at her, not wavering. "Being polite is useless in battle," he replied, chin raised. "And you're no stranger."

[identity profile] weetinysparks.livejournal.com 2011-02-12 06:43 pm (UTC)(link)
That perked James right up. "Cookies?" Wait, this was Mom. "Biscuits?"
