Fast Eddie's | Afternoon | Sunday | February 13

The thing about having a kid, alternate universe or not, was that she constantly wanted to be entertained. Even after the awesomely bad example he and Caroline had set last night by giving the kid cough syrup to make her sleep, she'd woken up the next morning even more energetic than the day before.

Trying to sleep in was fucking impossible when he had a kid jumping on his back and pulling on his hair. Caoimhe refused to just sit around in their room either, deciding that she wanted to go out and do something. She wanted to have fun.

So, Nathan had picked the activity. That might have been a frightening prospect but he thought he'd done a good job. Of course, as soon as he stepped into Fast Eddie's, he spread his arms wide and shouted, "Bowling!"

Such an ass.

[Nathan's here for two blondes but this is an open place in town so feel free to have families drop in!]

It wasn't fair her bribes failed. If that smirky bastard had tried it, five bucks said the kid would've done what he wanted. Caroline sighed and turned back to the lane, really not caring if she hit anything because if it wasn't perfect, it wasn't good enough and she'd already missed perfect.

This time the ball didn't sail quite so high on the release, and it somehow managed to take out a half dozen pins with greater speed. Bah, like Caroline cared.

Caroline gave a very overdone curtsy and flopped into the chairs by Nathan. "Oh yes, please, small child. Show me how bowling is done. And then turn water into wine and get me a drink."

Lord knew she deserved one dealing with these two.

"I'll gloat after I see how you play," she replied smartly. "The kid could be messing with my mind here, trying to set me up for a bigger fall."

Caroline turned to look at him, her hair falling to cover his hand. "She is related to you, after all."

Caroline was not watching him touch her hair because that was exactly the sort of thing she had meant.

And then Nathan was making a huge ass out of himself to prevent the child from bawling and Caroline had to wonder again. Whatever, she shook her head, not wanting to know, and focused on giving a little cheer for the kid's success.

Not for Nathan saving it.

Nope.

"Nope!" Caroline replied, cheerfully grinning back at him. "You did too well before. Now I have to sit back and secretly throw curses your way in the hopes that I will end up beating you."

"Oh yes, it's clearly the game's fault," Caroline said, rolling her eyes. "Kiva, don't you want like, snacks and stuff? Might make it more fun to watch your daddy nearly kill himself trying to beat us." Look at who was trying to get out of playing.

Caroline just rolled her eyes at Nathan's curse. She was used to his constant verbalization of his desire. Too bad it was never going to happen.

"You throw ice cream?" Caroline looked horrified at her spawn. "Are those your genes at work, daddy? Because I don't think I'd look very good wearing hot fudge sauce."

Yeah, she was not looking at Nathan after the child let that detail slip. "That's one thing he's good at," Caroline allowed, chewing her bottom lip. "I guess we can do that. Once your daddy's done with this whole bowling thing. What, nine more frames? Once you toss this one in the gutter, of course." Could he handle the ribbing?

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-02-13 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh yeah? Didn't look so impressive to me," Caroline said, taking his suck it as a total challenge to take this bowling thing just a little more seriously. Despite being terrible at it, her competitive spirit was easily ignited.

Especially by his stupid smirk.

She jumped up for her turn and made sure to brush past him unnecessarily as she went to grab her ball. "Cheer for your mum, kid."

No cheering would be good enough. The ball sailed down the lane, leaving a god-damned three pin split. So not fair.

"Absolutely," Caroline lied, retrieving her ball and looking down the lane. To do it, somehow she'd have to hit the two pins in such a way that one would shoot across the lane and take out the third.

Yeah, it was so never going to happen, but she was still completely determined out of total spite.

Caroline took a deep breath and sent the ball flying down the lane, immediately covering her eyes with her hands, not wanting to see what happened.

Nathan was right to think despite her eyes being closed and covered that Caroline would hear him tossing a second ball after hers.

Opening her eyes wide to their cheering and the child's admittedly adorable laughter, Caroline was hit with just how adorable it was for him to try and make her win when she really should have lost.

"Oh my God!" Caroline cried out, bouncing over to Nathan with outstretched arms to try and hug him. "I cannot believe--" her voice changed to completely pissed off, "--that you thought I was so stupid!" And then she started smacking his shoulders.

[identity profile] puppywithatutu.livejournal.com 2011-02-14 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
"What the fuck, Nathan! How dare you do that to me! You knew exactly what you were doing, letting me win and being all cute with the kid," Caroline said, still complaining even if she'd stopped hitting him for the moment. "Stop setting me up!"

Caroline almost felt badly that the child had to watch her parents yelling at one another about stupid fucking shit like smiling and perpetual abandonment.

"I smiled," she told him, not even capable of frowning with the frustration she was trying to cope with. "And I see you here, Nathan. Just, I don't understand why you care if I'm smiling or not! Didn't you tell me before that you don't care? Only now, suddenly you do?"
