Fast Eddie's | Afternoon | Sunday | February 13
The thing about having a kid, alternate universe or not, was that she constantly wanted to be entertained. Even after the awesomely bad example he and Caroline had set last night by giving the kid cough syrup to make her sleep, she'd woken up the next morning even more energetic than the day before.
Trying to sleep in was fucking impossible when he had a kid jumping on his back and pulling on his hair. Caoimhe refused to just sit around in their room either, deciding that she wanted to go out and do something. She wanted to have fun.
So, Nathan had picked the activity. That might have been a frightening prospect but he thought he'd done a good job. Of course, as soon as he stepped into Fast Eddie's, he spread his arms wide and shouted, "Bowling!"
Such an ass.
[Nathan's here for two blondes but this is an open place in town so feel free to have families drop in!]

This time the ball didn't sail quite so high on the release, and it somehow managed to take out a half dozen pins with greater speed. Bah, like Caroline cared.

"Better," Caoimhe told her very matter-of-factly before getting up and getting her own ball because she was up next. "Watch and learn."
no subject
Lord knew she deserved one dealing with these two.

Meanwhile, Caoimhe stepped up to the line and pushed her ball down the lane. It rolled slowly and it kept curving even if she tried to push it back straight with gestures. With a quiet thump, it rolled into the gutter.
"Caroline, you're winning right now," Nathan informed her, reaching over to pat her shoulder with two fingers. "You should be gloating and enjoying the limelight while you can't. It won't last."
Caoimhe, in fact, was staring at the pins very intently, waiting for her ball to come back.

Caroline turned to look at him, her hair falling to cover his hand. "She is related to you, after all."
no subject
Behind him, he could hear Caoimhe tossing her ball down the lane again. He didn't watch it because, well, he was focused on someone else. Well, he was focused on Caroline until he heard the kid give some sort of heaving sad sigh behind him.
When he did turn around, he saw her second throw in the gutter and the kid looking like she might cry which...was something he didn't want to deal with. So, without really thinking, he jumped out of his seat and actually hopped onto the lane, chasing her slowly moving ball down until he could reach down and grab it before it disappeared.
The oil on the lane made him slip and actually fall on his ass but he was able to heave the ball back down towards the pins and watched it thankfully knock down nine of the pins.
Caoimhe was already jumping up and down at back down where she'd been standing like she'd just done all of that on her own. Nathan let her have that one.

And then Nathan was making a huge ass out of himself to prevent the child from bawling and Caroline had to wonder again. Whatever, she shook her head, not wanting to know, and focused on giving a little cheer for the kid's success.
Not for Nathan saving it.
Nope.
no subject
"Yeah, yeah, good job kid," he said, taking a moment to do some bending and some stretching before he reached for his own ball. He held his ball up to his chest and sent Caroline a grin. "Gonna cheer for me now?"

Nathan tossed his ball down the hall and was about to start gloating at it being a straight shot when it veered off at the last minute and netted him a measly four pins.
"Oh, that's fucking bullshit," he said, glaring down at the pins with a hand on his hips. "The lane's obviously defective. Fuck this game, I'm awesome!"
no subject
no subject
Actually, he hadn't but he still did have another shot to go.
"Can I get some ice cream?" Caoimhe asked, looking up at Caroline. "With hot fudge sauce? I won't throw it anyone this time!"
no subject
"You throw ice cream?" Caroline looked horrified at her spawn. "Are those your genes at work, daddy? Because I don't think I'd look very good wearing hot fudge sauce."
no subject
"Yep!" Caoimhe answered, thus making it his fault and making Caroline right. "But I won't throw it this time, I promise. I'll get ice cream and you can have nachos and Daddy can eat the jalapenos!"
Oh look, that was a thing there too. Nathan smirked and looked down at the alley because that was kind of cute to hear.

With that said, he turned around and tossed his ball down the lane, using a few hip thrusts to try and get it to crash into the pins. It worked...somewhat. He knocked about three more pins down which put him ahead of Caroline and behind the kid.
"And I'm a damn good bowler too," he said, walking back down the lane and smirking. "Better than you are, dearest. Suck it."
Oh, if only he could have meant that literally with her.
no subject
Especially by his stupid smirk.
She jumped up for her turn and made sure to brush past him unnecessarily as she went to grab her ball. "Cheer for your mum, kid."
No cheering would be good enough. The ball sailed down the lane, leaving a god-damned three pin split. So not fair.
no subject
Nathan covered his face with a hand, trying not to let on that he'd started snickering quietly. Caoimhe got up on her chair and clapped though.
"Get a spare, Mum!" she said, sounding completely sincere. "Come on, beat Daddy! You tell me he sucks all the time! Show him show him!"
"Tough pickup," Nathan said, still standing there with his hands on his hips. "Think you can do it?"
no subject
Yeah, it was so never going to happen, but she was still completely determined out of total spite.
Caroline took a deep breath and sent the ball flying down the lane, immediately covering her eyes with her hands, not wanting to see what happened.
no subject
Unless...
Since Caroline was covering her eyes, Nathan quickly motioned for the kid to keep quiet before he stealthily (he didn't care if her hearing was gonna pick it up) moved around Caroline, picked up his own ball and tossed it down the lane at that one fucking pin.
Her ball hit the two pins, sending them scattering and his ball hit the remaining one, giving her a spare.
"Oh fuck! You picked it up, Caroline!" he exclaimed, scooting right back to where he'd been standing and giving her another over the head round of applause. Caoimhe joined right in because she thought that had been hilarious.
no subject
Opening her eyes wide to their cheering and the child's admittedly adorable laughter, Caroline was hit with just how adorable it was for him to try and make her win when she really should have lost.
"Oh my God!" Caroline cried out, bouncing over to Nathan with outstretched arms to try and hug him. "I cannot believe--" her voice changed to completely pissed off, "--that you thought I was so stupid!" And then she started smacking his shoulders.
no subject
"Caroline, stop hitting me, goddammit," he swore, still trying to fend her off. "What the fucking hell is wrong with you right now? I don't think you're stupid at all!"
Sorry, kid. The language wasn't gonna stop.

He stared down at where she'd just picked up an assisted spare before looking back at her. "I'm not trying to set you up for some big fucking fall, Caroline!"
His brain had finally dinged upon that as possibly being connected to this. "I'm not! I am right here, you know. If I were trying to make you fall, don't you think I'd be taking off, leaving you with the kid? No. I wanted to make you fucking smile!"
no subject
"I smiled," she told him, not even capable of frowning with the frustration she was trying to cope with. "And I see you here, Nathan. Just, I don't understand why you care if I'm smiling or not! Didn't you tell me before that you don't care? Only now, suddenly you do?"
