The Gig: Thursday [3-3-11]

Helen was working out all of her - whatever - by mucking out the stables in a way they'd never been mucked out before. If they hadn't been dirt, the floors would have been practically clean enough to eat off of.

James had to admit it was a good mucking, speaking as one who had mucked a stables a time or two.

"You seem full of energy today," he said with a wink. He was tempted to volunteer. Almost.

"Birds of prey in the classroom?" he asked, blinking a bit at the news. "What class?"

One side of his mouth crept up slightly. "We should make it less annoying."

"I was thinking," he said, sticking his hands into the pockets of his jeans (so handy, la), "that we should have a date."

Yes, wonderful idea to ask the sweaty girl smelling of stables out for a date.

He matched her raised eyebrow. "Of course."

"That's great news," he said, grinning.

"Hrm...do you have a taste in mind?" he asked, thinking of ideas.

His eyes twinkled. "I'm sure we can do that in this town," he said.

He grinned. "Need any help cleaning up?" he asked.

"Me?" he asked, drawing back slightly, bringing a hand theatrically to his chest. "I was offering my services as a stablehand." No, really.

This was a floor he'd eat off of. "I believe so. Even the Prince's stables are rarely this clean."

"I can put in a good word, if you want," he said, deadpan.

"Head stablehand?" he offered, straight-faced.

"They're a passable lot. Picked more for their skills with horses than looks. You'd be more apt to find the handsome lads in the Palace Guard." Well, it was true.

Well, now. "You still want me to put in a good word?" he asked teasingly.

"Don't think overlong. This offer won't last," he teased back.

"Thank you," he returned, just as dry.
