Mystery Sign Theater, Sunday

"You have got to be kidding me."

Not only an apt description of Mitchell's week, but also a very good way of describing his reaction to hearing which film the other investors in the theater wanted him to run today. It would 'interest the teenagers', they'd said, and 'invite a new market back in' and something about not making any money recently and...

Mitchell hated everything. If everything in Bristol wasn't so horrible at the moment he'd be gone back home in a second. There was an infrastructure to set up, after all.

But no.

Instead he sighed, and stared up at the theater as the workers put up the sign for the day.

Now Showing:
Justin Bieber - Never Say Never

Seriously. What the hell.

Completely unaware that they'd practically been dared to attend a showing of this particular film, William had asked Rilla if she'd be interested in attending a show at the movie theatre.

As he and his date entered the theatre, William had his arms full of snacks, which he'd been assured were part of the moviegoing tradition. He also had a slightly poleaxed expression on his face, because even after being here nearly an entire school year, the prices still seemed... outlandish.

"What do you suppose it's about?" he asked, surveying the theatre for the best seats. There was certainly no lack of choice, since it seemed no one else had shown up yet.

"I am not sure," Rilla said, "But the boy in it is," adorable! Not that she'd say that on a date!, "Canadian, so that is a point in his favour."

Frankly, William thought the hair was a bit foppish, but he wasn't going to say so out loud. "I did not know that," he mused. "So it seems the tables have turned and you were the one to do research this time," he observed.

"I've heard a few of his songs," Rilla admitted. "He's a talented singer!"

Or something.

"Ah, a multifaceted performer," William noted with approval. "Here?" he gestured to a pair of seats essentially smack-dab in the middle of the theatre.

"Lovely!" Rilla said approvingly. "Now what do we have in the way of snacks?"

"Popping corn, of course," William placed the bucket between them. "Colas. Several varieties of sugar-coated candies that claim to be 'fruit flavoured'. And chocolates."

He... may have gone slightly overboard, yes.

"Oh my," he blinked at the screen as the opening credits finished and the scene cut to a high-speed car chase. "How exciting!"

So, Kate made it back on the island late in the afternoon, head filled with daydreams of an apartment to call her very own, and somewhere in the periphery also some doubts about something she'd agreed to largely because she'd been so high on excitement. Namely, that Zach would be coming to town next weekend.

It was probably that latter thing, along with some other stuff from early in the week that made her want to check to see whether Mitchell was back yet. Swinging by the theater and seeing what film was playing kind of crushed her hopes of that (and made her pull quite an epic face), but she and her backpack still came by the office, just in case.

To be completely incredulous. "... What, seriously, you're letting them play that?"
vanillajello: (God's honest truth.)

"Well, can I use this as an opportunity to have a stakeout in the lobby so that anyone willingly coming in to see that gets escorted straight off the island?" Kate wondered, gaze flicking to the bottle then up at him again. She wasn't sure she wanted to ask. "Because that's all it's good for."
vanillajello: (Really now.)

"Too much work when I'm not on duty," she replied flippantly, putting her bag on the floor for the moment. "Is the beer your way of dealing with Bieber fever?"
vanillajello: (Might be silently judging you.)

"Well, they'd have to come in from the mainland," Kate replied, a bit dry. "I think we probably have like four fourteen-year-olds going to this school, and probably half of those are Victorians or something."

Edmund Only the royal family have enough money to pay me to set foot in a theatre Blackadder, setting foot in two on the same day, for nothing so much as a bonus? What was the world coming to?

Since the first had been closed with no sign of a manager or even a playbill in sight, though...

He peered into the manager's office as carefully as he could, just in case he rubbed against something and got actor on him. "Good afternoon."

Lovely; the Irish, a race that would have benefited immensely had they taken Jonathan Swift at his entirely serious word. Still, best not to start out by insulting the man.

"My name is Edmund Blackadder; I'm teaching up at the school. I'm looking to hire out a theatrical performance for my students next Friday, and judging by the dust on the doors of the other theatre, you're the only game in town."

"They want you to throw food at the screen?" He was assuming it wasn't bombs, despite some personal experience with that in his own theatregoing.
