The Gig, Sunday

As Firekeeper and Blind Seer came to work today, they were confronted with... absolutely nothing unusual.

That was enough to make them both somewhat nervous. Fortunately, this nervousness did not last long, as it was about an hour into her shift that Firekeeper was pelted with a half-dozen apples. Apples that looked as if they'd each been painted a rainbow of colors. A quick examination revealed that no, it was not paint, and a tentative bite confirmed that despite the odd skin, they still did taste exactly as apples should.

The horses, unsurprisingly, were quite pleased by this particular development.

Tahiri had been out climbing the Rocky Bits in a fit of nostalgia -- it wasn't exactly the Massassi temples on Yavin 4, but enough of a challenge in its own right -- and still sported light scratches on her arms and bare feet from the effort.

But she'd also brought along a nice big marrow bone for Blind Seer, and a strawberry-rhubarb pie for herself and Firekeeper.

"No random candy attacks today, I hope?" she called as she made her way into the Gig.

"Oh, is that all?" Tahiri held up the pie box and the bag from the butcher's shop. "Does that mean I shouldn't have brought food after all?"

She did not for a second think the answer might possibly be along the lines of 'no, you shouldn't have bothered.'

"Apple pie," Tahiri said, completely deadpan. Never mind that it didn't look like one at all, and neither did the marrow bone.

"Sure, ruin my joke with your keen senses," Tahiri said, sighing melodramatically. "All right, it's pie, but it's strawberry rhubarb. And a bone for Blind Seer, who wouldn't appreciate the baked goods as much. I'm afraid it's not as colorful as those apples, though."

As if Tahiri cared about furniture.

She laid the marrow bone out for Blind Seer, then wiped her hands carefully on the leg of her flightsuit and took a seat, presenting the pie to her friend with all due ceremony.

(Ceremony was due, after all. Because pie.)

"It's nice, isn't it, now that it's warming up enough to go without shoes again?"

"As if I believe that," scoffed Tahiri lightly; she dug into the bag for a plastic knife and started cutting into the pie crust carefully. "You're far too kriffing practical about your toes for that."

"Uh huh. Even more so without any at all," Tahiri replied, grinning. "Aren't you the one who always insisted on that?"

"You do just fine with two legs," Tahiri told her. "Besides, I've seen plenty of beings with four who aren't half as fast as you."

. . . banthas don't count, Tahiri. That's not fair.

". . . actually, just about, exactly," Tahiri admitted. "Although I wouldn't get in the way of a stampeding bantha myself."

"No, thank you. I earned those couple of centimeters I've gained," Tahiri shot back spiritedly.
