Devil's Nest [Saturday Night]

Eric Northman, vampire king of Nevada, didn't spend a great deal of time in Fandom these days but the reunion was too much of a temptation to resist.

He nodded at Tiny, then at the DJ who was playing the most modern of tunes--Willow Smith's latest dance hit, the Rolling Stones, Cher (who Eric had personally looked into to figure out how she was still alive. Mick Jagger was obviously a demon)--and then wandered behind the velvet rope to discover that the True Blood was the recipe from 20 years ago. Eww.

He wasn't planning on staying here all night: he was going to head to the mingler to...well, mingle...as well, but it was important to put the fear of him into his employees every now and then.

The Devil's Nest was open.

Merlin certainly did not remember this place from his time on the island. That and his borderline lemming self preservation instincts led him to wander inside and check it out.

"Do you have ale?" he asked, finding the music mildly better than at the mixer. Mildly.

"I think we can scrounge something up," Eric replied from behind him. "Draft or bottle?"

"Draft," Merlin responded after a moment. It wasn't as though he actually drank much outside of the kingdom. Visits to Karla did not count. Those were diplomatic.

"Wait, bottle."

He had a fifty-fifty chance here!

Somewhere... Arthur was hitting his head on a wall. "I think that would be good. So I can make an informed decision."

It was strange how all of the normal denizens of the island had seemed to disappear...

Merlin nodded. "It has been a very long time since I've been here." A beat. "It's a lot quieter than I expected."

Shhh, both of you. Don't point out that oddity.

Before the mixer, Kate swung by Devil's Nest. She tended to do that, when she was on the island, like she had been quite often in the last twenty years. It was tradition. Maybe it was the vampire factor.

She should've been glad to have been largely rid of the whole species, and yet.

"Just a green apple soda."

"Hello, Kate," Eric said with a smile as Tiny brought her the drink.

"Hello, Eric," Kate replied with a wry little smile of her own. Was it bad he was one of the few constants in her life in the past few decades, even if he wasn't always here when she was? "How's business?"

"Oh, you know, sociology classes at community college are the hip thing to do right now, as you must know," Kate drawled. "So, between that and work I haven't been complaining about being bored much."

"Sounds fascinating," Eric said. "I'd been thinking of taking up kickboxing, but I've been told that's very thirty years ago."

"Well, I hope you have fun in aeroyogalates, or whatever it is that's currently in in the exercizing world," Kate teased, putting her drink down on the counter so she could absently rub on the little green shamrock tattoo on her left wrist. "Though for what it's worth, I think kickboxing is timeless."
