Devil's Nest [Saturday Night]

Eric Northman, vampire king of Nevada, didn't spend a great deal of time in Fandom these days but the reunion was too much of a temptation to resist.

He nodded at Tiny, then at the DJ who was playing the most modern of tunes--Willow Smith's latest dance hit, the Rolling Stones, Cher (who Eric had personally looked into to figure out how she was still alive. Mick Jagger was obviously a demon)--and then wandered behind the velvet rope to discover that the True Blood was the recipe from 20 years ago. Eww.

He wasn't planning on staying here all night: he was going to head to the mingler to...well, mingle...as well, but it was important to put the fear of him into his employees every now and then.

The Devil's Nest was open.

Merlin nodded. "It has been a very long time since I've been here." A beat. "It's a lot quieter than I expected."

Shhh, both of you. Don't point out that oddity.

"Don't let the DJ hear you," Eric said, "or we'll be subjected to even louder Willow Smith."

...oh god. "This goes louder?"

"Up to twelve, apparently," Eric replied, rolling his eyes.

Merlin gave him a horrified look. "If he does, I can't be held responsible for what I do in self defense."

"If it means you kill him, that's an acceptable loss that's been written into their contract," Eric said. "In very small print."

"...I was thinking more turning him into a rodent," Merlin admitted. "I don't think poor music is punishable by death."

Though, he had yet to hear bad techno, so...

"Then you were somewhere else for the inexplicable rise of the undead boybands," Eric replied.

"Luckily I can say there have never been any boy bands where I'm from," Merlin replied. Unless you counted the knights of the round table. He offered a hand. "I'm Merlin, by the way."

Eric had still not gotten used to the human need for hand contact, so there was a slight pause before he shook the offered hand. "Eric."

Then, since he remembered that not everyone on the island would immediately recognize the name, added, "King of Nevada."

It didn't sound stupid, shut up.

Merlin's eyebrows went up at that. "I thought that was a state. Did things change here?"

Just be glad he remembered that part of it.

"In my regular dimension, we have a couple of different governments," Eric explained. "I'm the vampire king of Nevada. I have meetings with the governor."

Very, very awkward meetings.

"Oh." Only a little bit awkward. "That is new then."

"Well, it's really old, but we didn't tell humans for many years," Eric said.

"I will make sure to keep an eye out for that," Merlin replied. "I don't think it would go over well in Camelot."

There wasn't much that could surprise Eric after a thousand and twenty years, but that got him to arch his brows. "You're that Merlin?"

"One of them," Merlin replied cheerfully. "Because most of the stories are so very wrong."

"Sword from a stone, table that's round, weird obsession with a cup?" Eric checked.

"There is a round table and a sword, but no stones." A beat. "That came out wrong."

Eric snorted. "A bit."

Merlin sighed, taking a sip of his ale. One of them, at least. "All that nonsense about me being old clearly wasn't true. Arthur, on the other hand..."
