Caritas- Saturday

Jaina had spent some time at the mixer, but she had to admit she'd been sort of drawn to Caritas. Saturdays had been her night and for some strange reason she was a little nostalgic today. She couldn't resist stopping in for at least a little while to tell Tino everything she'd been up to, despite- or more accurately, because of- the fact that he'd never cared about his coworkers' personal lives in the slightest, and to head behind the bar.

Just because she could. And because she never got to do things like this anymore. For some reason empresses didn't tend bar much, who knew?

...Empresses probably also didn't consider lining the bar up with champagne glasses and trying that pouring trick she'd perfected at Mirta's wedding, and yet here she was, considering it.

"That sounds exactly like Jag with the Moffs," Jaina realized. "That's probably not a comparison the Council would like..."

She laughed. "But do we care? Because I really, really hope we do not."

"We don't. Though I don't have to deal with them." Which she was happy about, thank you.

"Lucky," Rose muttered. "Don't you get the assholes sidling up in the hallway, betting their position will keep you from punching them?"

"No, because they know I will," she shrugged. "There's a reason I'm happy to let Jag handle the sneaky diplomacy stuff and I'm the one who gets to yell when they really mess up.

"That's actually an awesome separation of power and stuff there," she commented.

"It's worked so far," Jaina said with a nod. "A decade in and the Empire's got a better track record than the New Republic or Galactic Alliance ever did." She paused. "Which still feels a little traitorous to say, but it's true."

"Can it be both traitorous and true?" Rose asked jokingly. "Seriously, though, it's awesome. Who'd have thought?"

"Not me," Jaina said with a smile. Not that she minded the way things were, most days. There were definitely certain things she would change, but overall... "Hey, out of curiosity, you didn't wake up in your old room or anything, did you?"

"No," she replied, making a face. "Wish I had. I woke up in a hotel room with Dimitri. Why? Did you?"

That earned an eyebrow raise from her, but she didn't say anything. "My old apartment. Apparently I'm not the only one that sort of thing happened so, so I'm curious." She was not actually going to share anything about her aunt being in a crib, but it had definitely gotten her wondering what else had happened.

"Weird. I wonder if they still have radio that'll explain all the weird shit later," Rose pondered. "Does anyone live in your old apartment now? Cause that could be messed up."

"Doesn't seem like it. Which is good, since there might have been an Incident otherwise," she frowned. "It was almost exactly like I remembered it. Very weird."

"It's like the island made itself ready for us," she agreed. "I haven't seen any students either when I was wandering around earlier. Maybe the island's trying to make us comfortable or something." Rose wrinkled her nose. "It hit creepy more than comfortable, really."

"I think the island's just playing," Jaina stated. "My grandparents are in their twenties."

It took Rose a long moment to remember that Professor Skywalker had a wife here. "Huh. I don't know," she teased. "Your family's always been totally weird here."

"And it's only gotten weirder," she said dryly. You try keeping up with all the timelines, especially when some of them were only a few years off. She honestly couldn't even think of where Anakin and Luke and Juliet's Jaina was these days. "But I figure if they're walking around twenty years younger, it's going to maybe be an interesting weekend."
