Mystery Sign Theatre 3000, Wednesday

Last night, Kate had finally managed to get a call through to her mother after nearly a week of trying (and before that, over a week of not bothering to even try because she'd needed a bit of distance). She'd been expecting to have to cover for why she'd been out of contact for so long, but her mother had actually seemed pretty mellow, and hadn't said a single thing about any missed calls.

The explanation had come soon enough, though. When Kate had carefully asked about how Charmaine had been doing after the wedding/family secret unveiling extravaganza, her mom had said the strangest thing. "Well, I think she's still coming to terms with it, I mean it's only been three days."

...According to Kate's perception of the world, it had been over two weeks. Oh yeah. Welcome to having timeline issues, Kate. She was pretty adamant to not think about that at all today. Her senior prom was coming up, so it really was time to think about accessories, rather than give herself a headache trying to figure out interdimensional time differences or, God forbid, think about the stuff she'd told Mitchell about a few days ago.

The hardest question she wanted to be dealing with today was who was going to ask who to the prom. (She figured it was Bod's turn this year.) The day's movie was a comedy, too, and she approved of that.

MST3000 was open.

Juliet got to the theater to meet Sov a little early, but she didn't mind.It gave her extra time to scope out the theater and look over the movie posters in the lobby.

She was excited about the date, but that wouldn't stop her from devoting some mental energy to wondering how she would look in some of the pictured costumes.

Sov hadn't been to the theater before, so the whole movie going experience was a new thing, just like going on a date. They walked in through the door, trying not to look nervous at all, and smiled when they saw Juliet.

"Hi! What are you looking at?"

"Hi," Juliet returned with a bright smile. Her hand fluttered over her hair for a moment. "Just the posters. I'm always curious to see what's coming out soon."

Moving to stand next to her, Sov looked up at the posters. "Do you know any of these?" They smiled a little.

"Not yet," Juliet said, a little wistfully, as she gestured to one particular poster (http://cdn.babble.com/famecrawler/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/Water-for-Elephants-movie-poster.jpg). "I want to see this one when it comes out. I love fashion from this era, and the actor is to die for. Plus it just looks romantic."

Sov, after studying the poster a little closer, said: "What's an elephant?" Because they wasn't sure which era this was or which actor she was talking about. It didn't matter, however. It was nice to spend time with Juliet, even if they didn't understand everything she talked about.

"What do you think is romantic?" The concept wasn't really a big thing in Rer.

"A bit gray animal with a trunk," Juliet explained, a bit vaguely, but it gave her time to think about the larger question. "Romantic is ... oh, you know. Holding hands and soft colors and walks in the moonlight. And candles. And old books."

The elephant description gave Sov a really strange idea of the animal, but they were distracted by the other response. "I like moonlight walks. And old books."

"Do you?" Juliet smiled, turning toward the concession counter. maybe they should get some popcorn.... "Have you read anything here, or is it all books from home?"

"At home. I mostly listen to the radio, but I like to sit in the library and read too. Or just look at the old pictures and maps," Sov said, following Juliet. "I've been to the library here a few times too. We need tickets, right? Should I pay for them?" Note that this was not Sov trying to be a gentleman. On Gethen it would have been impolite not to offer.

"We need tickets," Juliet confirmed. "If you can pay, I'd like that."

Part of being as rich as the Darlings were involved never paying for anything you didn't absolutely have to.

Well, Sov might expect Juliet to pay the next time, provided that there would be a next time. Holding out one of the tickets to Juliet, Sov said: "And something to eat?"

They were selling things to eat, after all.

"We have to have popcorn," Juliet decided, then -- grandly -- "And that can be my treat."

[identity profile] child-of-rer.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Sov grinned. "That's a good deal, I think. Do you know anything about the movie, by the way?"

Re: Mod Your Lobby/Concessions [Apr 13]

[identity profile] twintuitionist.livejournal.com 2011-04-14 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"I do," Juliet confirmed, once the popcorn had been paid for. "It's about a very, very rich man who has to get married to keep his money. And I think he's drunk all the time. And he has a nanny. The ads looked funny."

"Marry to keep his money?" Well, it might make more sense when they actually saw the movie.

"I know, isn't it awful?" Juliet wrinkled her nose. "I guess it makes sense in the story."

[identity profile] child-of-rer.livejournal.com 2011-04-15 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
"It seems like a bad reason to marry," Sov agreed, "But hopefully it makes a good story." They reached for Juliet's hand as they turned towards the entrance. It was meant as a gesture of friendship and a way to express that they were really happy to be here with her.

Juliet was surprised, but let them lightly take her hand. It didn't really mean much of anything.

"And he has this nanny," she added. "And that looks funny too. and I don't think the theater is crowded, so you can ask me if anything doesn't make sense."

[identity profile] child-of-rer.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
"Oh, good," Sov said, although they would have asked questions even if there were lots of people around them. "What's a nanny?"
